Whats Wrong With Having FUN With SERIOUS Subjects?

I just had another thread removed for having some fun with a serious and real in-the-news topic.
Damnit! We were having a good time goofing around together...while discussing the topic and spinning off a little humor along the way.
Seriously, some truly funny stuff was coming out from many of our great ATS humorists such as the incomparable DBC.

Yes. People were having fun with a serious subject...so, naturally, it had to be destroyed and removed.

What the hell is wrong with using humor to discuss and make light of things in the news?
It's like fun is banned...and only frothing at the mouth partisanship is encouraged.

I'd like to see a special forum where it's okay to make fun of serious subjects; one that doesn't get immediately canned because too many people are relaxing and enjoying a little ribald humor, witty banter, fun and comradery.

Maybe including a little more leeway to go off topic occasionally.
This place needs to be able to lighten up a bit...and we really have some truly great humorists here who get shut down much too often and too soon.

How about something like that?

We used to have the Banter Cafe where we used to do all that. I miss it.

Wide ranging good natured banter = Off topic posts.

I wish that they would lighten up a bit.

Nothing wrong with a bit of light relief and harmless taking the piss even during the most serious of discussions - possibly more so during serious discussions.

We should do more of it.

Agreed.
Humor and fun is a valid way to discuss serious issues in an all too serious world.

In the absence of the late lamented Banter Cafe (and our old friend Cornish) how about we can all play a Joker card to allow a bit of fun posting that wards off the attentions of the Fun Police ( no offence, Mods). Perhaps with a daily limit?

I 3rd this. Humor and good natured banter help keep psychopathy at bay.

General Chit Chat as long as it does not break any rules of civility and does not include Political Mud throwing. Chit Chat has been here all along.

"FUN POLICE" sums it up perfectly.
This 'Banter Cafe' thing sounds like it has potential to fit this bill.

I did suggest this a while back - I think to DTOM?

But there were too many restrictions to make it workable, like actually having a "physical" location, like a Cafe or a Pub.

It WAS a good thread...and you're funny as hell.
But I always know when I put one of these threads up...it will only be a matter of time before the wet blanket comes out and it gets tossed.

So I try to have as much fun gagging around with all you guys as they graciously allow...or until they notice it.
