You notice I didn't say "of the year" because we all know when it comes to stupid, somebody is gonna say "Hold my beer", but these 2 guys are gonna be
tough to beat. 2 men break in to a live substation, let me repeat that ..A LIVE SUBSTATION.. to steal copper. I have no idea why they thought this was
a good plan, but they found out the hard way not to play with high voltage.
edit on 5-4-2023 by DAVID64 because: (no reason given)
There is almost no copper in those sub stations. They use aluminum for the conductors. Copper is too expensive for the conductors in the stations and
main lines.
Aluminum is more dangerous in houses and businesses is why they use copper there.
remind me of my uncle. in the 70's he and his friend busted trough a beer store wall with sledgehammers. they were caught the next morning, drunk as
hell and sill drinking beer inside the store!!!. im sure the opening employee, and the cops still tell that story.
The neutral is usually bonded to the bare ground at the load side of the transformers. The neutral carries the unbalanced load. More than likely the
“victims tried to steal that bare copper ground wire and when they open the connection they became neutralised.
Imagine how desperate someone must be to risk electrocution and death for a little money. I feel for them and the families they left behind. May they
find more peace in the afterlife then they did in life.
