So, what the hell is 'Anarchy Metal' and is it redundant to even use such a phrase?
First, a multi-point caveat before wasting your valuable reading time here:
1. If you can't stand metal music, or metal that isn't melodic, crisp and clean, then this isn't for you!
2. If you only like bands that copy the sounds of Slipknot, Korn or Linkin Park this probably won't be your bag either!
3. If you only love black metal and/or death metal, you won't like this!
4. If you just want to hear the music please skip over all this rambling, boring ass text!
5. Keep in mind that this music was not produced or released by a record company, it's 100% homegrown!
6. These statements are not meant as an affront to anyone's taste, as I dig all music (except for Yoko Ono's voice!)
Greetings! Long time no thread, ATS!
So, sometimes we need a way to vent our frustrations at society and blow off steam, and for decades heavy metal music has been the outlet of choice
for millions around the globe. In many respects, metal music doesn't get the attention it once did - especially since its heyday in the 80's - but
there are actually now more metal bands than ever, and they can be found in every nook and cranny of the real and online world. In fact, there are so
many genres and sub-genres of metal these days that it would be quite a task to go over them all, but they range from minimalist to techno-noise to
full on orchestras and everything in between.
I started listening to hard rock & metal early, around the age of 5 thanks to my older siblings. I was also exposed to great musicians like Elton John
and Ray Charles at the time which enhanced my love of music in general, but the band that I was drawn to most was KISS... yes, cheesy old KISS.. but
some of those guitar licks still stand the test of time today, and the few really heavy songs KISS produced were quite formidable.
I personally started teaching myself guitar when I was about 13. Having played around with keyboards as a kid, I already had decent pitch recognition,
so guitar came somewhat naturally to me and I found I could listen to simple power chord riffs and mimic them fairly easily. The first riff I taught
myself was "Talk Dirty To Me" by Poison and from there I got into better guitarists like Ozzy's Jake E. Lee & Randy Rhoads when I discovered Curt
Mitchell's "Learn To Burn" series on tape, which was excellent because it also taught you how to write your own guitar tablature - which I always
considered a shortcut to reading music, but that was fine by me!
By the time I was 17 I was writing riffs and penning my own metal lyrics, complete with scenes of hell, rants about the dishonesty of man, and the
usual metal subject matter on the darker side of things. I certainly wasn't going to write about sex and chicks because I wasn't going to tease my
hair a mile high and put on lipstick, so I went in with a 'Black Sabbath' type of attitude towards my writing.
Fast forward.... by the time 1999 arrived, I had my ideas together enough to write a full album, and my band recorded 10 songs at a local studio.
We toured in clubs for a year or two, but never garnered interest from a record label, so I decided to call it quits and focus 100% on being a new dad
while still writing songs in my spare time. Not a very metal attitude to quit, I know, but I just didn't see how I could making a living earning $50
a week playing music in dive bars.
Fast forward.... by the time 2020 arrived I realized I hadn't been on stage in 20 years, and that my life was probably half over or better! That's
like 25% of my time on earth not doing what I love!
Which brings us to 2023 and the birth of my new project, with the subject matter being an amalgamation of absurdism, nihilism and general misanthropy,
yes my attitude toward humans has only gotten worse, but instead of building bombs I try to build 'song bombs' for the mind.
As far as the anarchy part, think of the second dictionary definition first, then add the Mad Max frosting just for fun.
1.a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority or other controlling systems.
2.the organization of society on the basis of voluntary cooperation, without political institutions or hierarchical government; anarchism.
The music represents both, but mainly number two. The idea that mankind can find a way to exist without living under a hierarchy.
Sure, this may be an impossible dream, but no more impossible than having incorruptible government institutions.
I realize that bands like Megadeth have been covering this type of subject for decades, but obviously writing songs about my Amazon package being late
wouldn't be conducive to loud, wall shaking music.
Thus I offer to you my musical brainchild, DISASTER CORPS, to nurture or to ignore, to smother or even beat to death with criticism!
Either way, I'm back in the game, and I'm currently writing a second release for July and already planning a third in October.
Will I become rich and famous? Not on your life - but time's a wastin' and we all know Morgan Freeman's famous line.
Admittedly, you'll notice this music features very little lead guitar work. A lot of this was due to time constraints in the studio, so you may hear
spaces where you think there should be more guitar and I totally agree. Next release, I'll try to blister it up a bit and see if I can still shred
like the olden days.
Until then,
CHAOS NEVER STOPS
