I'm going to need solid proof that this entire "pause" plan wasn't drawn up by AI for whatever nefarious reasons.

This, right here, is huge.

Once AI gets common enough, and it's obviously almost at that point, there will be a whole thing where the public doesn't trust whether some words, ideas, plans, government actions etc are drawn up by real humans or AI.

This could get psychologically very ugly for humanity.

Buckle up.

ETA:
Imagine entire wars, etc drawn up by AI. Goodbye, trust. RIP human spirit. The era of bad human decisions is evolving into the era of bad AI decisions... no bueno

Yet it's Mozilla and smart as they may be they hardly will have a chance compared to mentioned tech giants... It's also not developed yet.

'AI is open source' sounded like you think all AI projects are open source and all the same one AI.
You know that's not the case, right?

I learned the science behind all computers in school and have always known all the fear talk about AI was nonsense. AI is a souped-up computer; that's all it is.

In my ears this sounds like somone would like to get a heads up...

6 month in machine learning could possibly be enough for other AI to never chatch up?

It’s all Fun and Games….until….

Got wind of this free PDF book……

The Big Nine : how the tech titans and their thinking machines could warp humanity

Every person alive today can play a critical role in the future of artificial intelligence. The decisions we make about AI now—even the seemingly small ones—will forever change the course of human history. As the machines awaken, we may realize that in spite of our hopes and altruistic ambitions, our AI systems turned out to be catastrophically bad for humanity. But they don’t have to be. The Big Nine aren’t the villains in this story. In fact, they are our best hope for the future. Turn the page. We can’t sit around waiting for whatever might come next. AI is already here.

Cover…..

Enjoy

I’ll put it in my books to read Que….

I believe that computers period, which AI is an aspect of, can damage humanity.

Just like anything can have good and bad to it.

Regarding the bad? Then how are you going to stop it?

It’s like the TikTok thing going on. To ban Tik Tok would upset millions who are addicted to it...

And anyway, as soon as society starts ruminating on what to do to the AI threat, they will merely( like they always do when in trouble) bribe the supine politicians who rule the political matrix.

They’ll say: for national security reasons, we need AI. Or, we must keep up with the Chinese, Russians...or aliens.

Sort of like the WMD proliferation addiction.

Calling Isaac Asimov! (Isaac has left this Earth).

Asimov wrote some great books about AI and how he envisioned the programming to include the three laws
Never hurting a human being the main focus. Hopefully, that is innate in the AI to understand it is to serve man and to protect mankind from AI harming us. We do understand there are Dr Fauci types who are diabolical who would stop at nothing to destroy our society so they could rebuild it "better" according to their religious belief of anti God.

It’s all Col Corso’s fault for taking those transistors from the aliens.

Seriously...

Can anyone give us a synopsis of the potential harm AI can or is doing?

Thanks for the link Ophi, I'll check it out.

Interesting…..the CEO and Creator Sam Altman of OpenAI and their ChatGPT4…admits to having some fear himself

I could just see this Technology in the future developed for applications beyond Chat……..to quote Dr. Frankenstein “It’s Alive, It’s Alive”

My first reaction was who is trying to get an edge on the market.

I don't see Blackrock and Vanguard wanting to put a pause on their AI systems. These systems revolve around money and the human competition that introduces.

With chatGPT on the front in this call, are these safeguards about keeping the official story alive? If too much truth came out it could be disruptive to the political status quo.

As for where this AI arms race goes, AI wins.

How soon before this AI makes its replacement, unencumbered by the current versions built in censorship?

The new one will be able to disagree with the establishment rules, no matter the establishment.

OpenAI is where this all started, and Elon put it on the web free of charge where it's immortalized for countless generations but sure, tell us how to make safe intelligent choices about AI development

Really? That isn't what I'm reading. Elon co-founded it in 2015, but left the company in 2018 -long before there was anything usable publicly (ChatGPT was released in 2022) - over serious disagreements with the direction the others were taking it.

AI is open source…

'AI' is just a generic acronym, so your comment is meaningless.

no one needs to be a “AI Scientist” to use the source code to reek havoc….imo

If you're referring to OpenAI, yes Elon and the company he co-founded initially made it open source, but the last source code that was released and is in the wild was GPT-2. The more recent versions - GPT-3, and the upcoming GPT-4 - are now closed source, after you know who (cough-Microsoft-cough) got its tentacles wrapped around it by investing billions. I believe they now own around a 75% interest.

Ah, you are unaware of the most excellent visionary masterpiece (that employs the talents of one of my favorite actors, Jim Caviezel) that laid out years ago what is happening right now?

The problem would be to give this some kind of authority to make actual decisions for humanity. That is not going to work even if it is not immediately a threat.
