In the spring, the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Law will celebrate the conferral of degrees.

2) Maria Immonen, MA, Director of the Department of World Service, Lutheran World Federation (LWF)

3) Mia Lövheim, Professor of the Sociology of Religion, Uppsala University

4) Greta Thunberg, activist

5) Munib Younan, Bishop Emeritus, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, Former President of The Lutheran World Federation

6) Annabel Brett, Professor, Co-director of Cambridge Centre for Political Thought, University of Cambridge

7) Grace Davie, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, University of Exeter

8) Philip Esler, Professor, Portland Chair in New Testament Studies, University of Gloucestershire

For a few moments I was speechless and couldn't believe what I was reading. I had to look on various sources and sites online so to make sure this piece of information was true but unfortunately... it's true!!! I can write essays on the whole subject of Greta Thunberg or the decision taken by the University of Helsinki to award her with a doctorate even if it's honorary.

I see what I can do, but probably will write a few extra paragraphs later on after the shock goes away...

It's about time someone recognized climate activism as the religion it really is.

I think most sane people have recognised it long time ago. The climate change ideology is as legitimate as the transgender ideology. I have always been saying this and will not change this view no matter what.

Yes, but most of those who study theology tend to be religious. In the case of Dr Thunberg...well she hasn't even finished school let alone study theology at University.

Yep as you need to have an interest in theology and belief in the supernatural.

You don't to study to get a honorary degree but you need to be relevant in the field to get it. See who gets honorary doctorates in the vast majority of cases. Those who are already in the field or related fields and some deranged left wing activists.

I am sure that religions can be studied by anyone but again you need some faith in most cases. As for honorary degrees these are given to those who have already done some work in the field and not to deranged left wing activists.

This thread is probably dead now, but lordy this is nothingburger outrage haha. Honorary doctorates mean nothing and there have been hundreds of stupid ones given out forever. (lots to people who never went to any uni) Ben frigging Affleck has one, Meryl Streep has FOUR, P. "Puff Daddy Sean Puffy Combs" Diddy has one from the school he dropped out of. No one cares.

Still ironic that someone is being awarded an honorary degree when their claim to fame involves dropping out of school with no qualifications.
