The WSJ said in its report that Tyson Foods “had struggled for years to hatch enough chicks and meet customer demand while paying more for labor to staff its plants and grain to feed its chickens.” During the 2023 earnings call, Morris said the company can do a better job of ensuring the right amount of chickens at the right locations to meet customer demand.

Ohhhh, and, "Related: Tyson Foods announces 30%+ price hike for beef and pork as food inflation explodes."

Higher wages, higher prices for feed, another avenue of food supply closing and oh, btw, prices will be going up.....again.

Granted, there are other locations they indicate they will be 'focusing' on to meet demand but time will tell. If people haven't figured it out, they really need to get proactive and figure out how to be more self supportive. Even small amounts can help. Aaaand, since I'm a chicken person, I try to tell everyone, get 2-3 'pet' chickens and at least produce your own eggs. It's just a matter of time and there won't be many true meat processing plants.

I'm not sure but I get the feeling this is simply more about pushing 'green' alternate meat sources and eliminating animal protein foods.

If you read the entire article, it isn't just them. And in 2020, they put out a statement that our food supply chain in breaking. Supposedly because of Covid19 but I believe that was simply the catalyst to get the ball really rolling.

www.nbcnews.com...

"In addition to meat shortages, this is a serious food waste issue. Farmers across the nation simply will not have anywhere to sell their livestock to be processed, when they could have fed the nation," John Tyson wrote.

"Millions of animals — chickens, pigs and cattle — will be depopulated because of the closure of our processing facilities," he added.

Yep, de-population of animals used to feed millions will definitely force alternate food sources. But the food waste I agree, it's out of control. The school I work at, it's atrocious, mind blowing disgusting the amount of wasted food. And the food has to be served to the students in the designated quantities in order to be a 'reimbursable meal'. And God forbid you give free leftovers to students who want it or take it home to use. The government would rather see it tossed in trash bins than used to feed those who want to eat it.

There's no better way to bring civilization to its knees than to control and limit the food supply. They have everybody focused on war, viruses and money while systematically stripping away our ability to survive.

It won't take long for the big cities to irrupt in violence and we already know the rest.

Well played by the party that brought us slavery, the KKK and fought for generations to keep segregation.

I shudder to think where we'll be at next year at this time.

Won't be pretty I predict...

It isn't just in the US where meat production is down.

Pig herds plummet in Europe
Meanwhile, countries across Europe are seeing a reduction of pig farms, as data shows a 3% decline, in the EU, in the year’s first two months compared to 2021’s pig meat production – with numbers in Germany declining by double digits (-11%).

The latest numbers from the European Commission show that the trend is worsening, with slaughterings down 4.2% until the end of April and metric tons of produced pork declining by 5%.

A clear example of the declining pig production in Europe is the number of pig farms in Germany, which is down 41% in the last ten years, according to the country’s statistics authority.

China blocks meat imports regularly from what I can see, and not specific to any one country. What's funny is, their consumption is going up, not down. Of course, China's population has been steadily growing, albeit slowly until this year where it had actually dropped for the first time in decades.

There are a lot of ways that we can do away with food waste. Sometimes you have to be creative to remain within all the restrictions, rules, and regulations.

I serve the community once a week. I feed those that want it but can't afford it by giving them the food free, but I pay for it at cost, so I am basically paying $2 for a $7 meal. I can donate 10 meals and everyone wins. The food is not wasted. It only cost me $20, and we make enough profit off the meals sold to break even for all the support costs.

Some places give to the pantry, but they give it in bulk, no frills, and the pantry is limited in how much handling and packaging they can do with meat, so it just means we need more volunteers to get the product to the needy, while not running afoul of the rules and restrictions.

I learned an important lesson during my years as Director. Know the rules, restrictions, and regulations, inside and out. Follow them to the "T". Never give the government more and never give them less then the regs call for, and you will be able to stay ahead of the game.

Oh, and don't be afraid to stand your ground when they go into overreach mode. And they will. That is why you have to know the regs inside and out, including dates that they went into effect.

Knowing the dates, kept my behind out of hot water a number of times.

Yeah, this is actually the biggest threat to Chinas future, and it is of their own making, due to their decades long one child policy. They're due for a massive, and I mean massive and rapid decline over the next 2 decades. Their aging population is huge, even if they start relaxing their birth policies, it may not reverse the trend, since their people have gotten used to it...

Didn't something happen with Tyson around that time as well? It was all over the news but I can't remember what it was. It wasn't about a shortage, I don't think.

Not sure. The article is recent, within the last couple of days. To be frank, it's one more straw added on to the overburdened camel's back of the common man. Just one. more. thing. to break us.
