If the owner still misses payments and doesn’t reach out to the lender, autonomous vehicles would be instructed to drive to the repossession agency, an impound lot, or a junkyard depending on the market value of the vehicle.

That's what garages are for

I would off course not buy this either, never. I will do whatever I can to avoid this. Right now my car is old and well maintained, it will keep running forever

No offense to Yanks and I run one of these Fords................ Are the Ford production teams really capable of producing vehicles capable of locking out drivers? Holy smoke Ford still can't bond a door seal to a Focus door without it dropping off after a couple of years!

The auto industry is racing towards a future full of microtransactions

The auto industry is again chasing itself to ridiculous proportions.

How about building vehicles that mortals could afford without risky creative financing? Do that and you won't have to engineer a repo feature!

More the Reason to Buy Pre 1982 Cars and Trucks (No ECU's) , and just Modernize them . It's Still Legal .

This is like some fruit cake suggesting everyone just wear an electric shock collar linked in to some biased government network entity. (For everyone's safety)

Mentally a lot of folks today all over the world are in that sinking boat already.

It wouldn't be such a bad idea for our leaders though.

"You can run these agencies but you will have to wear this at all times, and the people will be monitoring what you do and say closely".

Also, ALL Ford motor company executives will wear this collar so they will not try to build in any funny business into the cars we buy.

That sounds much better.

The problem is they use people who don't pay their bills on time as an excuse to put tech into all vehicles that turn them into giant remote control cars. Then that tech is built in forever.

I'm sure they would never disable your vehicle for a pandemic of course.

No hacker after it's been out 15 years could exploit the software to kill you remotely.

They would never disable it to "save the planet" or limit how many miles you could drive.

America doesn't have a social credit score....

Although this isnt the video I was intentionally seeking, I think these are the same guys from the one I was looking for.
www.youtube.com...

The video I was after was hacking & fully operating a BMW on a closed course track, going so far as to lock the driver inside the car.

Well I think they should make cars that will not run until the driver is not using the phone -
Cars stop in the middle of the road, come to a screeching halt at green lights, all because the driver is busy yapping on the phone, heck with traffic.
As for the ones sitting in their vehicles for hours screaming into their bluetooth or whatever on their dashboard, while the person at the other end screams back and you get to hear both sides of the conversation at 2:00 a.m., as they are parked in front of your house, there should be a time limit installed on that device, of like 5 minutes.
Someone I know went up to a driver parked outside his bedroom window after an hour of screeching and blasted an air horn at him, LOL!

Looks like I am going to have to lock it up with a chain like my bike. Chain it up to the axle and then a telephone or light pole. Thats the ticket.

Best long term car you can get is an early 80s Mercedes Benz 300d or sd. The w126 and w123 chassis vehicles with the om617 will outlive you.

Buy a scooter, I bought one last year, it gets around 70 miles per gallon, super easy to drive and park, and super fun to ride. I only use my car now for long trips.

My wifes mom had one. It was like a tank, solid and a lot of fun to drive. She passed away and a neighbor bought it. It still is going strong.

This is just one example of why we the people of the world should never let the currency go digital........

If they get that much control over the peoples money that's it...

There is a reason cash was invented.

Just imagine this, bad debt would be eliminated... the way a person gets credit will change, if a person misses a payment on a loan or car, or house or etc, they either lock you out of whatever like Ford mentioned, or they just take the money right out of your account with out due process...

This is a just cause for war against the system for even thinking it, let alone suggesting it....

8 billion people in this world, those who sit at that table of control number less than a thousand.....

i bet if they come up out with one, it will be the only part that doesn't break and cost thousands of dollars to repair. hell if it did break, they'd probably extend the warranty even when the car is sold after trade in.

It's already mostly digital with the exception of some P2P transactions. Even if you're a geezer using checks it's still digital.

I had a Focus for 10 years. I zero issues with it outside of standard brake and tyres. Most reliable car I've owned.
