We have "Simply" tons of stuff, likely had it before UK/EU... Ketchup/Mayonnaise even, though undoubtedly the "simply" and "natural" branded products are a higher cost not all can afford, the are also likely less shelf-stable than the crap loaded with chemicals...

So for SHTF I'd buy the regular microwave oats crap

.Don't get me started on how most of the population in the US is on some form of medication most of which damage the stomachs enzymes which breaks down foods to begin with.

Sorry bub... Europeans are no different, in fact they're likely worse because they're not self-sufficient at all, space is a premium over there.

Y'all still on about this same old same lol?

Yeah, I grow a % of my foods. I also create most of my condiments except for ketchup and mustard. Mainly cause mustard seed is to much to harvest, and ketchup would burn through my tomato's like no tomorrow.

Best bet is to try and grow yourself, save seeds and condition them to produce in colder/warmer tempatures. Like I just harvested bell peppers the other day, I am saving those seeds to produce better yields in winter. Where most store produce is on its last legs unless it's from a greenhouse.

Obviously there's restrictions no matter what, but I feel better when I eat my own foods. Or foods from reputable companies outside of "Walmart", "Aldi's" and other major brand stores.

I can distill my water supply if needed, but usually run it through a good quality filter before adding plant foods. Things are getting bad, and it will get worse. Most of the seeds I harvest come from non-gmo organic crops that aren't water based foods. I even let my lettuces go to seed after second harvest.

It takes a lot of work to make things, but either way I am still hea ily exposed to bromate. As mills cost a fortune to make flours on the drop of a hat, then like I said non-bromate flours don't rise as good and can easily get over excited.

What it all comes down to is if you can afford to eat healthy or not, it's designed that way as part of the culling.

Do t we want the low incomes and pensioners poisoned and living shorter life spans?

If I filled my shopping cart with all Uncured" meats "Natural" or "Simply" products I would leave the grocery store with half the goods.

Yeah, sadly it is. They are trying to track balcony gardens in the US now. It's pretty bad. But yep, totally agree with you.

I got lucky growing up myself, my mother worked for a high end nursing home for minimum wage.. (the ones for the rich 4-5k a month to live there.). So the food quality supplied there was way better then what was locally available. So she often smuggled out foods as the policies there were lax..

It's bad for 1 income house holds. But I could let you in on all the big bad secrets of what they did to low income house holds, that were single parent.. it's pretty bad, I am honestly lucky to be alive today.

One of the schools.., had a boy die(staff strangulation) there about 5years ago. I found out about it because they sent apology letters to everyone who they had on file there. That school convinces low income families to abandon their kids to the state, and state raised kids.. it ain't pretty what they do to them.

Worst part is people deny it and look the other way, claiming oh it's illegal it would never be allowed to operate.. I am like wrong, they are allowed to operate and they only closed the ones down that drew the most media attention.

I had some little know it all call me a liar until I showed her the buried news report. Then her jaw dropped.

American food is packed with preservatives...
Fruit and other foods do not rot or age the way they use to.

Sounds strange, but there might be a positive outcome.

The preservative chemicals when digested might be preserving organs and other body parts which is leading to a longer life expectancy...

The only imported food I buy from the UK is HP Sauce.

I love that so much I’d shampoo with it if I could!

Let's update that comment since the thread has evolved.

"All processed food is packed with preservatives"

The question persists... Can you afford to fill your cart with all premium goods?

Obviously some have never stood in front of the lunch meats and you only have say $5 left you can spend on groceries without removing another staple from your basket. And then you look at the uncured ham and it's $6.99 for a 1/2lb and right next to it is "deli style" ham from the same exact company but it is $4.99 for a full 1lb.
