I am sorry that the Queen passed and people are less than understanding about the outpouring of grief among the British. As an American I've never had a king or queen but can certainly empathize, we did the same when JFK was murdered. Perhaps it is a product of tradition but it's those traditions that give us national identity. Those who belittle them are disregarding the importance of a national spirit and helping to further fragment society. Traditions may or may not be helpful, they may even be impractical but they are ours. Like our sibling who may be slow we don't disclaim them or take kindly to mockery of them. They are our family and we claim them just as a nation is a much larger family.

I don't give personal information over the internet. But believe me, here we would never want or accept a "king". It wouldn't last a second, people here are not that brainwashed. People like Washington, the founding fathers of the USA, who fought the English and the King, who died to defend freedom, as many other nations in the world who were also invaded by the British, are highly regarded.

The manifesto seems to be promising everything while cutting taxes for the rich which doesn't seem very realistic.

The 'voucher' NHS system has already existed for decades in the UK under the NHS Constitution which grants each patient the right be reffered/get treatment to a hospital or clinician of their choice if condition hasn't been treated satisfactorly within six months (was five years when I used it).

The NHS Constitution and NICE Guidelines are incredible/lifesaving tools I've used myself for specialist neuro treatment but I get the impression Drs and Consultants aren't actively meant to tell you such rights exist as whenever I cited them in appointments the consultant has been very supportive, relieved and thought it was the best course of action.

True, Oldcarpy should not be the topic of this thread. Even if I completely disagree with his ideals and I think these are taking him to the bottom of the pit, I still think that he has the right to believe whatever he wants.

But to you, Itisnowagain, do you know that scene in The Hobbit (The battle of the 5 armies), when King Thranduil asks Bard if he tried to reason with the dwarves? And that this was pointless, because dwarves only understand one thing (the sword). It's the same with the Royal-loving British. You'll never change their mind, because their pride as human beings is connected to this. If they accept otherwise, their whole family history crumbles down, and they can't accept that. They all have a grandfather or great-grandfather who died defending the crown. I know it because I lived it many times.

When Tolkien created the dwarves, he created them thinking of the British that love the Royals (that's why the dwarves have Kings and Princes and follow them), while the Hobbits had no king (they were the Irish, living in the West).
