Theirs a knock on the door from the police saying that they have issued her with a substantial fine and if she does it again she will go to prison. The new regulations in the UK...

This concerns new stoves, which have to pass new emissions standards. The regulations have been known for some time, so if you buy a stove today, then it will be legit.

It also covers fuel. To avoid poor emissions, people should use properly seasoned wood. You can fall foul of the regulations if you sell wet wood. Wet wood produces much more smoke and less heat, so it's not very good anyway. Only unscrupulous people will sell wet - unseasoned - wood.

The old lady in the OP's example would unlikely have anyone bother her, unless her fire is so smokey to be unsocial, or she's using a wood burner in a smoke-free zone.

The newer stoves are less suited to all night use, and more complicated to operate. The temptation will be to put one large log on and shut down the air intake to keep the fire going till morning. This will cause more smoke.

Most people don't have space to store enough wood while it seasons, and firewood is for some reason especially prone to theft. The reality is people burn what they can and it is often not prime firewood. Those who can afford to buy properly seasoned wood will do ok. in terms of dynamics in the past 2 years its the progressive liberal/woke who have brought up all the solid fuel burners/stoves.. they are also the ones switching their evs for diesels..

and so there is a push to get gov to subsidise 2nd hand evs as no one wants them..

where cultists meet reality they crash and burn.. in this case literally given the increase in stolen solid fuels they care even less for the planet than most suspect...

the poor go into woods with saws as they always have.. very common where i used to live.. the saws and wheelbarrows came out, when its obey a stupid law or freeze most people will break the law..

Jeremy Vine had a segment on this a few days ago. Most councils don't have the resources to go chasing an old lady on the pension. They've already given up trying to police the current legislation. With dwindling resources and massive Council pensions to pay, nothing will change. That according to the show.

My area of the UK is in a smokeless zone-these laws have been for a good while-I think its just the fine has increased.
Anyway,every other house here burns coal or wood during cold times and no one ever gets a fine or even a warning.

We actually have some antisocial w4nker in the area who burns tons of plastic and what smells like animal hair on a regular basis-the address is known and many have reported it over the years as it stinks up the whole village..

Guess what the council/cops have done?
That's right,nothing..

The UK government is very good at making people worry about all their new restrictiosns-but in reality its more nonsense from goons in London who like to pretend everyone listens to them and behaves just as they want.
They need to feel important,its an ego thing,but no one takes any notice for the most part.

Too right FB and common sense all round, even from the Councils which is an eye opener for sure

If only the people held some sort of Sword of Damocles against the government that they feared would fall and they be judged by history for their flaws rather than merits…

Such a sword should be listed second amongst the things to be retained and kept sacred from those that wish to remove it, I would think. To follow and enforce the things that make a person an individual such as the expressing and sharing of beliefs in various formats.
