I shared this story before but I can't find it.

Growing up I used to hate eggs. My mom would make scrambled eggs and I would protest eating them and she would beat me, literally beat me.
I would get so anxious before breakfast knowing how much I hated eggs and the subsequent beatings.

I always knew my mom grew up in abject poverty but didn't know the extent until right before she passed.
She told me when she was a child they would see rich kids eating eggs and how delicious it looked. They longed for those eggs so badly. One precious egg.

Then she eventually grew up got married and could buy all the eggs she wanted. She said even to that day should couldn't dare eat more than one because growing up an egg was so precious. (Think of grandparents growing up in the depression era and how they were) I understood why she was so adamant about feeding her kids eggs and why she was so distressed we didn't want them. She then fed my dog a little piece of egg with her chopsticks... We all laughed how cheap eggs were at the time (2020) ............

She told me one of her first thoughts when coming to America from Korea was seeing all the metal. Metal everywhere. She said there were little garbage/recycle men in her hometown that would faint at the sight of all our metal. I just read vNex92 post on Tariffs on Russian Aluminum...
Here
and had a similar flashback like the egg story. We talked about how cheap aluminum is and how many people just throw it away, or on the ground here. In poorer places, aluminum is like throwing money on the ground..................so I guess that's the next thing to skyrocket in price...

I've been in countries where people haul little wagons around and collect all the scrap metal they can find. Always older guys who are incredibly thin. Sad thing is how little they make from that activity ... but they still do it. -That- speaks volumes.

Cheers

My greatest fear is that the next generation may be telling their children the same stories.

I have watched America go from the country that people thought the streets were paved in gold, to the country where the streets are paved in feces.

I won't make another 50 years, but If things continue as is, I will be blessed not to see it.

The things parents do to their children.

Hopefully you have found healing and forgiveness in your life, for your sake, not hers.

I completely forgave her. I understood.

It’s just awful that our children might have to go through the same thing (sentiment) in the near future.
Who would have thought in America that eggs would be an expensive breakfast…

I heard stories from my dad, getting beaten for not liking the monthly meat dinner...
I kind of get it too food was scarce, they went for everything edible the urbanizing environment had to offer, they grew up living from the land, no delivery chain. Having a child to feed extra is a notable increase in food providing, not eating is disrespectful...
It's still totaly demented because if the kid was hungry he'd eat, so yeah dumb parents for getting to much food, when they could have enjoyed the sunset....

Local farm are still the same price, since the day I got here 50 cent an egg...

There are a lot of people think think a lot of obesity stems from this type of unhealthy food programming.
Being forced to clean your plate
Being forced to eat foods you don’t like
Being forced to overeat as to not waste.

I never thought about eggs, my grandma went thru the Great Depression and it really affected her. I don’t recall ever having eggs at her house. It was always cereal or grapefruit. You hear stories about saving wrapping paper and bows, check and check.

The thing I’ve never heard before is what she made us do for showers. We could only turn the water on to get wet and get the wash cloth soaped up, then we had to turn the water off. You could turn it on to rinse off. This really sucked in the middle of winter in Wisconsin because she kept the house so cold.

It's the opposite for some people....they grow up and suffer anorexia.
It can go either way....over eating or under eating.

My grandma was like that. I remember having to take a bath at her house and she put about one INCH of water in the tub and I threw a fit and she scolded me and told me that was plenty of water! She also would shut off the main valve of water off EVERY single night. So if you needed a drink you were out of luck!

I really like eggs, and I feel bad when I see them being wasted. I make the wife two eggs over easy but she does not eat the yolk area, just eats the white and dunks her toast in the liquid yolk.....I eat what she has left and make myself one or two eggs instead of three like I like to have. The yolk is very nutritious and I cannot stand to see it wasted.

I upped my price of eggs to the people I get eggs from to four bucks a dozen plus child support...right now I give five bucks a dozen total....I am eating the children of the hens....I have to pay child support payments to the hens so they can get extra food and warmth.

I can’t stand the yolks, never have. I remember my mom would make boiled eggs and I wanted the white part so bad (we would dip it in soy sauce, sounds weird but it is delicious) but I wasn’t allowed to have them if I didn’t agree to eat the yolks, but I hated the yolks so I didn’t get any. I think my mom realized later on this was not a good way of handling things and she felt bad.

When she was going through cancer treatment I had to “encourage” her to eat and she didn’t want to and it was a really weird feeling having the roles reversed, but I showed a lot of grace and only one time made reference to how it was growing up, and she found humor in it.

I’m the same as your wife!

I don’t like the part of the yolk that solidifies, I think it’s the texture.

I'm almost certain there is a place for it.

However the amount of actual nutritional value in what we consider food is on a steady decline.

On topic.
Chickens require little room and resources. With minimal upkeep, they can remain unnoticeable to neighbors (probably not in an apartment however). There is little reason for eggs to be a status symbol and points more to how controlled the food supply is versus actual egg demand.

My grandfather had a bad disability since he was a child, when he turned 17, he left the country side and moved to the city to look for a job, all he had with him was a brand new shirt that his mother gave him to wear at a job interview. flax and cotton clothing was near impossible to get at the time because of a war.

A couple of years ago we buried him in that shirt. Still looked new, crazy to think he kept it his entire life.

I had a stint selling high end fabrics and antique/vintage textiles are also a hobby of mine.
People don't realize how poor cloth is now and it's totally done on purpose.

Look up old homespun, or old linen. It can be 100 years old and thrown into the washer hundreds of times and STILL look new and be stronger than the plastic crap being sold today. They still sell some of it on ebay. There are old pillowcases on ebay that are 70+ years old and still look brand new!

My bedding is pure linen. Some people don't like it because it is more stiff, but it keeps you so much more comfortable.
It also doesn't get static like other fabrics.

Linen, silk, wool, and leader... Those are my preferred materials for clothing.
Linen is such a great casual wear the climate is just perfect, suits look great too, wool in all its Form has so much to offer, leader make the best shoes if you have sweaty feet, and silk... Ahhhaa... Silk is like an orgasm on the skin.

Second hand is the way to go if you want to find quality that is affordable...

I have to smile, I was just on ebay looking at Waverly textiles, some of the designs being sold by the yard are rare and the cloth is high-end, was thinking about purchasing a few yards and having drapes made by our local tailor.
Can't stand the polyester junk they sell as 'drapery'!
* One more thing, talking about drapery - suddenly we are seeing bed sheets or towels in the windows in our neighborhood. The upper window is pulled down, the sheet or towel is thrown outside, the window is shoved up to hold it there, and - voila - instant 'draperies'.
Can't bear looking at that trash!

Alpaca wool is my 1000000% all time favorite.
Followed by silk, real silk!
then linen and then sheep wool.

Alpaca is much softer than sheeps wool and I feel like it is lighter and keeps me warmer.

We used to sell some really high end fabrics. I was very young, but I remember people dropping 10K on some fabric for curtains or to recover their sofas.

One lady was very wealthy, and she told me her husband was a foot doctor and she loved spending his money.
She would drop thousands and thousands on fabric and trim.

I was a buyer for a while because I was known to have very high end taste (even though I was dirt poor at the time)

Rich people like what most consider ugly colors. Poor people like flashy colors, middle class like safe colors.
