Defcon Warning System

Announcements
DEFCON Warning System – Update 2/1/23
4 days agoby DEFCON Warning System

Written by DEFCON Warning System
This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9 P.M. UTC, Wednesday, February 1st, 2023. Condition code is Green. DEFCON 5.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.

There are some signs that the United States is settling on a policy of nuclear ambiguity with Iran, allowing Iran to continue to develop its nuclear programme while not officially admitting to its existence. Meanwhile, the United Nations says Iran has enough highly enriched uranium to build several nuclear weapons. Iran has stated that any military action against it will be a declaration of war and it is to station warships in the Panama Canal, entering the Pacific Ocean for the first time.

The United States warns that weapons manufacturing and delivery is being stressed further by the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Center for Strategic and International Studies warns that the United States would likely run out of some munitions in less than one week in a Taiwan Strait conflict.

South Korea says that if North Korea’s nuclear threat grows, South Korea would consider nuclear weapons of its own or ask the U.S. to deploy nuclear weapons on its soil.

Japan reports that it would expand military assets on the Yaeyama Island chain off the east coast of Taiwan. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom and Japan sign an agreement which allows each country to deploy military units on each other’s soil.

Russia manufactures Poseidon nuclear-powered torpedo and will deliver them to Belgorod. United States says it will support the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine, but it will not send F-16s itself. However, NATO is sending heavier equipment to Ukraine, which Russia calls an escalation and evidence that NATO is a part of the war. Russia, for its part, has refused on-site inspections to verify compliance with New START treaty conditions.

Turkey says it is considering leaving NATO.

I remember when it went to DEFCON 1 in 1983 due to the malfunctioning WOPR system. That was a close call!

Here is the current military ship movements around China. The red arrows indicate that the the ship is underway.

Here is ADS-B of the CONUS including the China Sea.
Very interesting, I see no tankers?

I won't be a bonehead and add any ad hominem remarks, and attempt to disparage this very informative thread.
However, this is the first time since February 1991 (Operation Desert Storm) that the DEFCON level has been raised.

Doubtful, Im retired but my civilian job has me closely working with people that would be in a shifted position in response to a defcon change and that aint happened yet.

We wouldn’t even know. The formula for deciding the actual level is arcane and complex, and not just “China flew a balloon over the US! DEFCON 2!”

I see tankers. Several airborne out of Japan, one heading east from Hawaii, one heading west to Hawaii, and at least one returning to the West Coast from a local mission.

It’s also Sunday. The military doesn’t fly much beyond operational necessity on weekends.

I like the idea of some junior intern having to update the defcon status on the Defcon WordPress after any meeting.

Isn't the whole idea that this is meant internally only. I thought it was only Marvel that major leaker issues.

Anything claiming a DEFCON level is a WAG based on someone throwing darts at a board. The actual DEFCON level is classified, and won’t be on a YouTube channel or website.

Yeah.

You laugh, but in 1980 they did order the launch of the Alert Force. We launched the Alert EC-135, which scared the living # out of pretty much everyone when they turned left and hit the air so fast they left streaks behind. They just about launched in 79 too.

I want to point out that even though there are tensions between the U.S. and China, we have to remember that the people of China are probably just regular people like us. They probably stick up for their leader, right or wrong, like we do.

In fact, I'll bet they brag about their leader over ours by saying:

"Your President is doing a lousy job, but our dictator goes to 11."

Getting unconfirmed reports that we are now at Defcon 2. This is getting real serious.

Depends on the region .
Some have been of Defcon 2 for years.
Others are at 3 and 4
Wake me up when the US gets to "Cocked Pistol"
