I wonder what his family was told? Maybe they hadn't seen him since 2019?

AWOL huh?

Does the statement: "the agency will disavow any knowledge..." from an old TV show spark any memories?

AWOL years ago, and also not a Navy SEAL. This guy was nothing but a washout has been at the time he died. A vet, yes. Also a guy that lost his SEAL placement and was also not in the service at the time of his death. The media is playing a game of words about his death.

Ask yourself:
"Why?"

Disclaimer: I have not read all the posts, so forgive me if I am repetitive. I also have not done any personal research on this yet, so may be ignorant to the details.

I am just going to post personal information. Not my personal information tho.

A number of years back, I was working as a journalist (published) on some conservative news sites. I interviewed and wrote about an Army veteran who decided to go to Iraq and fight alongside the Kurds against ISIS. He felt a calling for different reasons, but he was no longer in the military and missed many things about it and that was one of the reasons for going. Another was that he learned about the Kurds and developed a passion for them and their cause.

He just up and left and was there for over a year. I became his POC here in the states and blogged for him. Raised money for him. While he was there, he was with other American veterans who 'felt the call'. This is what they all said. Each had their own story. During his journeys around Iraq and even entered Syria (illegally mind you), ran into other American veterans along with British and Canadian veterans. It was a 'thing' at the time.

One thing I learned - they all had 'issues' to put it nicely. Psychological/mental issues. Legal issues. Civil issues. Most of them running from something in their native country and feeling that fighting for a cause they thought they had control over - would help. Feeling that they were making a difference or sticking it to someone. Having no real authority figure over them telling them what to do. Being a badass, but an independent one with no boss. ... LIttle did they know....

I could tell of many stories, but I am not getting paid to write anymore
Seriously though, I could tell of many stories but that is time consuming....time I don't have....but would love to have.

So, it is possible, this alleged SEAL went over to fight for a cause he believed in.
It is possible, this alleged SEAL was running away from something here and felt being there would benefit him on some level without having the US military telling him what to do.

I will look further in to this to see about the alleged SEAL part.

guarantee that every country that might end up fighting Russia has bodies in the warzone seeing what works and what doesnt on both sides.

...He wrote a book in 2020 called “The Fall of a Man.”

AWOL since 2019 but he wrote a book in 2020! I'm not up on military justice but I would expect they pursue deserters. Someone on the run doesn't publish a book without getting caught. There's got to be more to this than we know.

As usual blaming the Russians but lets ignore the English speaking mercenaries that are in Ukraine fighting for zelensky.

He didn’t blame Russia, he offered a thought experiment.

One thing to remember about US soldiers is they’re volunteers. You have to ask yourself what motivates them to do an incredibly hard job that doesn’t pay much (in direct cash) and demands more than the typical workplace.

I will answer this......For some....
Sure, low pay while in. HOWEVER, your housing is paid for. Your education is free. And some get on the job training they can take with them, once they are out. Healthcare is free and that insurance is the BEST. If you have any smarts, you can leave the military, get a contract job and make 100-200k+ easily in certain careers.

Others because it makes them feel like badasses and the pay is not a consideration. Others, because it is their way out of small town nowhere.

Voluntary going in. Then no longer voluntary. You are owned.

Those going to fight along side other countries think they are going as independents with no boss telling them what to do. Once they get there, it is always worse than the US Military ever was. Like I said above, those doing so always have some kind of issue going on. They are not normal healthy stable level headed people.

The fact this guy repeatedly vacated his SEAL team position raises some huge eyebrows to me, then he was able to get on as an officer even after being stripped?

Something doesnt add up with this, whether its HIM or the story.

So, this guy was just a flunky if anything.

I wouldnt call him that, SEAL training and teams are no joke, most people wouldnt make 24 hours of that training much less to accomplish what he did.

For all we know he was real, and died fighting as a merc for Russia, but they changed the story to fit a narrative.

Or, if he was a SEAL, maybe he was actually recruited by the FBI/CIA and killed in a black ops mission fighting for God knows what end.

I feel like this might be closer to the truth, because the timeline were suppose to believe with this guy doesnt add up really, and command wouldnt put up with repeatedly "dropping" from teams and just welcome you back with open arms.

My gut tells me this guy was over there in some sort of capacity that wasnt suppose to be found out. And hes not the only one over there.

My frustration is the SEALS and other units use to have an honored code of silence on things, and now it seems like every person that comes out of SEALS or Delta or any others want to tell the world about everything. Maybe im just living in the past though.

That's the part that gets me most. I have a pretty good idea what he did, and I know that it's all a mental game. Hell, what I did in the Marines seemed impossible to the average person, but it's a mental game. This guy might have been able to handle the training, and even ran a few missions, but his head wasn't in the game, or else he wouldn't have gone UA.

The guy's a flunky in my book, not because he wasn't able to physically deal with the issue, but rather that he couldn't keep his head on straight.

He went AWOL in 2019 Mike, so not to fight for Ukraine. He had his reasons, whatever they were, but going to fight the Russians wasn't it. Unless he was in Ukraine prior to the full blown invasion, fighting the Russians in the Donbas, which I didn't see in the article.

Ok, he went AWOL and then went and fought for Ukraine.

Better?

I wonder where he was in the interim?

Still strange IMO.

maybe he just got addicted to the madness of war.

felt more at home in chaos and death possibly

clearly had the want to fight and kill or be killed.

still sad that a father is dead.

Sure.

That still doesn't answer our other questions though.

The guy wrote a book while AWOL?

Seems like there is more to the story is all I'm saying...

Both of you are correct. it is the AWOL part I do not get. A lot of former soldiers go to many places. A lot of times make good cash. Had friends who did security in the Middle East but they were retired.

Whole story was odd is all.
