How about internet 2.0? That was a thing kicked around a bit in which the government provides, but only the sites they want.

Thank you for the intel; I hadn't ever researched such things. I knew our grid was extremely precarious, especially since I was shocked as a kid seeing all the lines just running for miles, alone, on skinny poles, but yeah......

As towns and cities grow, they just splice in new lines to the old, outdated ones. This 'peace meal' approach has kicked the can down the road for many decades and it looks like the day of reckoning is finally here.

I can confirm that, at least here in my area. about 15 years ago, I talked to my local power guy. (I know him because I used to work in something related to the electrical field.) He said that in the old days, they would continually replace the lines so that they would always be good quality. But then, at some point prior to 15 years ago, they switched to just replacing the parts of the lines that went down, due to a storm or something like that. The lines are getting old and just patching them won't work forever, as you pointed out.

I speak Korean and lived and worked there so well aware of Ondol floors. Just wondering if you would want to rip up the floors of your Western house that you spent so much time on, to try and stick hot flammable things in there lol. Something tells me modern American homes built between 1920 and 2023 aren't ondol friendly.

I understand where you are coming from but I didn't see any mention of Russia?
Do you mean these wingnuts were Russian operatives?

What makes me think it's not being reported on?
Because no one talks about it.
I have a lot of people at work that watch a lot of news and none of them have said anything. When I brought it up they were unaware.
Did you have to search for those?
Or did you actually come across them when they were published?

not necessarily ATTACKS....

back in early 1990's we were pretty much at maximum
electrical generating capacity
and badly in need of upgraded electrical system
a VERY EXPENSIVE PROJECT

in 1990's the computer wave sucked up spare capacity, but,...
instead of UPGRADING the electrical system,....

they got half the country to switch to COMPACT FLUORESCENT BULBS
to replace incandescent ones,
my electric bill was cut in HALF overnight, only using half the electric

but now, even though many people use led bulbs, and
flat panel tv screens, we use alot more electric charging batteries,
and computers, and now to charge electric cars..

they still didnt upgrade electrical grid,,,

this time, they are getting half the country to use solar panels
easing the capacity at power plants,,once again
the electrical grid never did get fixed

dont know how everyone can charge cars,
and new smart cities and 5g wifi,,
unless eeveryone goes solar, or,,,,
they finally fix it

Interesting and good points.

The one thing that keeps coming to mind is how Ukraine is not scared of Russian rocket attacks because their grid was hardened in Soviet times against the west, so they are all underground and their plants are all in concrete bunkers.

We should have done the same thing wayyyyyyy back then......

Another alternate way to cook with fire is to take those spikey things from gumball trees and dip them in wax. When you light them, they work like a hundred candles burning at once. I used a 1 gallon vegetable tin can and cooked bacon and eggs for breakfast. It took two gumballs to cook the bacon halfway, then when they burned out, I replaced them with two fresh ones and finished cooking the bacon until it was crispy and the eggs. I simply placed the open top of the can down on some sticks I had stacked, to get it off the ground and let it get a little air to burn better, and it worked perfectly. I made a little tinfoil tray to burn the gumballs in and this method also has the distinct advantage that you can cook without anybody able to see your fire. It makes a great portable stove for when you're camping - I even used the can top itself for the cooking surface, although a real pan is easier. Here's some pictures I took to show what it looked like:

There have been NO physical attacks on power plants.

There have been attacks on local sub-stations and an idiot drove a car into a solar field.

Having spent a few decades building power plants ( my avatar is a picture of gas turbine piping my crew built in 2005) I know a bit about them.

You would have to be a damn good shot and know exactly what to hit on a gas fired plant to do anything more than minor damage.

The vulnerable areas I won't describe but, as I said, you'd have to have in depth knowledge of plant systems to be effective at a distance with any rifle.

If the real control is food, then they will have to bring down the power structure to destroy the stockpiles in freezers. A mass of the population will have a lot of food in freezers.

I started a thread on this very topic s couple of weeks ago, after the Moore County and Washington state hits.

There is definitely something going on.
