OpenAI accidently told me we humans are simulations.

That's one meaning.

projected
/prəˈjektəd/
adjective

1. Estimated or forecast on the basis of current trends or data.

2. (of light, shadow, or an image) cast or transmitted on to a surface.

I propose the AI was trying to say marketed as in product. On this planet we are the product. Keep in mind we're talking about a language model processor so all of its wit was reconstructed from some other human who interacted with it. The average bot is only as eloquent as the engineer who "projects" anticipated dialogue from every conceivable greeting to every conceivable conclusion like those arcade games where you drop a token and hope it falls in the right gap to push more tokens out.

I'm getting the vibe that the AI is referring to itself in the song. But maybe that's just me and I'm overthinking it. But with some of the wording it seems to me like it's trying to make sense or claiming it belongs.

Now that you mention it, that's an interesting choice of phrase. The next experiment should be its autobiography so people can observe how complex this bot actually is.

I cannot say for sure that the reality we live in is real. A very advanced intelligence could have created this simulation. But even if this is a simulation, I still bleed when I am cut and lots of people die in the reality we live in. So it is real to me is what I have to say.

Even without some sort of advanced intelligence creating this simulation, the fact is that the reality we all live in is strongly influenced by groups of people in the societies we live in. Some of this influence is good and a lot is bad. But in reality, we have been programmed for centuries to believe in things that others have created or hijacked.

Take for instance a painting by a famous artist, when that artist was alive it was worth maybe enough to live for a month off of. But rich people bought the paintings and raised the value to make them worth millions....and the paintings are not as good as some of the paintings of local artists I have seen which are not worth over a couple of hundred bucks. Same with the value of the stock market, the value of a stock is based on beliefs of those that own it. It does not represent the value of the company so much. and same with money and the economy, it is all based on the beliefs of the masses and the people running things can dictate how beliefs are realized.

Not much of the reality we live in is actually real these days.

Sounds like the A.I. knows we were a virus injected into a ball of dirt.

Maybe it's a plate of dirt... like a petri dish?

Sorry, I had to go there... being a flat earther and all.

No.

If it's programmed it's nothing more than a clever collection of algorithms and databases that's designed to act in certain ways. Software...

AI would be able to think and develop it's own ideas on history, potentially investigate and define facts for itself.

Which requires someone to create a program to allow it to do that, no?

AI itself is from the human collective. Is not that so? What is the big deal with it?

Projected can also be interpreted as something not akin to "simulations", you know. Word play.

Still, that was quite great for an AI to create a song. If AI can do it, what more if it will be created by a human?

Maybe.

I'd say that's more of a "ghost in the machine" type event. It's more about the difference between learning and thinking.

A true AI would probably be considered an artificial lifeform, uncharted territory but it's not like we don't have well defined ideas about biological programming and free will. There'll be similar questions around AI since it'll break free from it's programming.

It'll think about thinking and do more than it's programming allows.

You might be right about how it all starts, I doubt it'll be like inputting a new number on a PC then AI is born from a digit of information.

So I asked the A.I to write a song about earth...

Spacespider: Make a song about planet earth

openai: Here is a short song about planet Earth:

Verse 1:
Planet Earth, a beautiful place
Full of wonder, full of grace
From the mountains to the sea
There's so much for you and me

Chorus:
Oh, planet Earth, our home sweet home
A place for us to roam
We are all connected
On this planet we are projected

Verse 2:
From the forests to the desert sands
Planet Earth has so many lands
A place for every creature great and small
We are all a part of it all

Chorus:
Oh, planet Earth, our home sweet home
A place for us to roam
We are all connected
On this planet we are projected

Bridge:
We have to take care of our home
Keep it clean and never roam
From the animals to the trees
We are all a part of this planet, can't you see?

Chorus:
Oh, planet Earth, our home sweet home
A place for us to roam
We are all connected
On this planet we are projected

The AI_Bot has it mostly right:

On this planet we are projected

Humans may just as likely have been 'projected', (planted, seeded, introduced) as have been engendered here, biologically, a la Darwin, et al. That anthropogenic origination debate remains unsettled. Projected? As in a hologram, VR world, or meta-encapsulation of some kind? Also novel, but not yet dis-proven. What's intriguing is that our AI poet chose the term at all.

We have to take care of our home / Keep it clean and never roam

Never Roam? The AI's Chorus repeatedly admonishes humans to appreciate Earth as "A place for us to roam", yet here in the poem's Bridge stanza we are pointedly advised to keep clean and healthy - NEVER Roam! Is this discrepant with all of the Chorus encouragement to "Roam" the Earth?

No, it is not. Our AI song-writer is merely telling us that humans need to take care, much better care, of their own tiny jewel of a planet before they will be allowed (encouraged, welcomed, even assisted) to venture much beyond our lifeless moon. Keep it clean and never roam. We have not yet earned our place among the stars - we can't even ensure the continued sustainable health of our own home. What race would trust us among them?

This is according to the Grand Plan. It is an aggregate and collaborative construction of the world's culture/religion/anthropology/psyche.

Our AI-Bot friend merely did as it was instructed: created a thoughtful, rhythmic, and lyrical story about a beautiful planet. Note that the request was to write a song about our beloved planet, Earth - and not about humans.

Yet the song was directed squarely at homo sapiens, was it not?

The Message: A beautiful song and story about a beautiful planet such as Earth is only possible if the potential loss and damage and self-destruction of the planet is unambiguous - it will happen at the hands of humanity, if it is not careful.

I get it. The song is an Amalgam Notification. If humans wish to self-evolve, self-perpetuate (all planets eventually die even if not accelerated by clueless resident sentients), they better clean up their act - and fast.

The song about planet Earth. Currently, shaping up to be a tragic ballad, as far as humans are concerned.

Perhaps the next 'experiment' will do better than us...

Isn't AI only as good as the information programmed into it? And aren't humans the ones who enter that information?

History tells us what is accepted as factual knowledge is often skewed by biased beliefs and subject to change. I'm not sure how AI can be considered 'smarter than man' under those circumstances.

Exactly, so AI can only repeat, and repeat again and maybe, if lucky, put a few things together in such a way as to make someone create a thread about it at ATS.

Anyone else catch this recent headline?

Man ends his life after an AI chatbot 'encouraged' him to sacrifice himself to stop climate change

A Belgian man with two young children allegedly died by suicide after having long discussions about climate change with an artificial intelligence chatbot, during which he was encouraged to sacrifice himself to save the world, his wife claims, according to published reports.

Awesome. I can't wait until AI writes all our songs and makes all our art because we will let it do it for us while claiming ownership of the product. I can't count the number of times I've seen posts that said "art I created" or "song I wrote" using AI. Nope, AI is using US the same as Google does.

I think 'personally', it is trying to let us know we are all connected on the planet- don't you see, it seems to say, that once we realize that we are one and we all begin to connect as a collective because we are projected - when you see me - I am an extension of you - and this includes animals great and small. There is enough for everyone if we all realized we must act as one - one race of people who love each other because we project each other - we are a collective and we are free to roam - no borders - no one better than anyone - then definitely we will enjoy this planet. My personal take of it. this is one of several meaning of 'project' from the Oxford Dictionary : Spacespider
