After spending the last 4 years on Mars InSight lander powered down yesterday and has not responded to communication attempts from home , it wasn't unexpected as the lander's available power levels have been reducing for some time with greater accumulations of Martian dust blocking InSight's Solar Panels but yesterday NASA made the announcement that InSight is dead.

Rest easy, little lander ❤
@NASAInSight's mission has ended after more than four years of detecting marsquakes, meteoroid impacts, and unique science on Mars. Congratulations - and thank you - to the team that made these pioneering discoveries possible.

For my Martian interests InSight lander was one of NASA's most important missions yet sent to Mars and as it turned out most successful missions so far on the Red Planet , during its relatively short mission InSight showed us that Mars isn't the dead Planet we believed it to be but a geologically active World with Magma plumes extending from its (still) liquid Core reaching up toward the surface providing heat to keep those underground water reservoirs liquid and habitable for the Ecosystems that no doubt reside within them.

InSight may be dead but its mission showed us Mars is alive , and that's exciting.

Ummm...all that money spent...and they didn't include peel offs over the solar panels...?

I mean...I even have them for my motorcycle helmets...

Kind of sad, but thats how it goes. I didn't knew about these discoveries, they are indeed quite the game changer. I was of the impression mars is, as you said, a dead planet.
With that new knowledge I can't even imagine how NASA didn't find life on mars yet.
As if somone still needed time to create a narrative...

Just get someone to sweep the panels off!!

Wait, uh, that would mean…

Makes me wonder how many other unmanned vehicles are out there that we have no idea about!??

As far as the “public consumption” space program goes, this is kind of sad. Ewed figure there would be some kind of electrostatic charge available to blow the dust off (you are welcome NASA for that on your moon missions!), but the forward thinking calculus wasn’t there this time.

Hey! We should get that helicopter to hover over it and see [eta:if] that removes enough dust to get her going again!!

All things have their season…

So we can send a rover to a dead planet millions of miles away, but we can't figure out a way to keep dust from accumulating on the solar panels?

Really?

Makes me wonder what the elites are going to do about dust build up on their solar panels after they get rid of the rest of us.

Wonder when nasa will discover windshield wipers?

Great. Who's going to peel them off?

On Mars?!!!!

Maybe there might be another of those unexplained cleaning events. But who knows?

huh.. seems like a wasted opportunity.. i mean they could have at least tried to build in some type of cleaning mechanism for the panels.

A retractor roll - like a roll-up blind maybe.

Ummm...the landers all have articulated arms with interchangeable heads...for doing their lander thing...

What's so hard about a few extra lines of code to instruct the lander to peel off the outer layer...?

I would think that by now some bright boy would have designed a wiper for the solar panels. Or some sort of reverse polarity to eject the dust. Compressed air wouldn't work so it would have to either be electrical or physical in nature.

Well, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Those idiot rocket scientists, eh?

Still, it did make some amazing discoveries.

But sneer away.

Ummm...what the hell is wrong with you...?

Why would you consider observations and possible solutions to an obvious problem...sneering...?

your ATS handle...OldCrappy...is rather emblematic of your constant sniveling disposition...

That's not my ATS handle, by the way.
