The morning was gray as dawn broke through the trees
That color saturated the air
No questions
Because You were there to guide me
each step with intention
Exactly what I wanted to be
we walked with purpose
through the mist in the wood
my pangs were hungry
Thats why you were there
I knew it without knowing
Looking through Your eyes
I guided Your arrow
It went true
But that's all You wanted, the shot
And You looked at the limp wings and smiled
shimmering blue on the ground
My question was obvious
How long til we eat
In Your grin was the answer
I drink beer
not sure what Your gonna do,
Now what did You learn Boy….
Im still hungry..Id stay here..with him,
dead like him
but I gotta pick up cans and blue birds

Edit to add..It was my uncle 'Smoothebore' that shot the bird..its perhaps my earliest complete memory..it was a long shot..rifle..I remember how fast and accurate it all happened..and when we got up to it he picked it up, let it lay limp over his hand, I looked up at him thinking chow time and he just let it fall back to the ground..It was indeed blue..an exotic and for sure not native to where we were…he was a doosh like that..killed like 28 deer one morning, had them hanging in an oak..I had the polaroid forever, but it got away from me..later on he got popped by DEA for an acre in an area that will remain..an area…He died recently, I guess this is my homage..RIP Uncle G…Im sure there's frog farms and pot fields wherever You are(he wanted to raise frogs, and worms) Your bloodthirst knew no bounds..Better hope white tail aren't sentient and have their own stuff.(they for sure are and do)
