After spending just five days in a Bahamian jail cell, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is backpedaling on his decision to contest extradition to the United States to face fraud charges, Reuters reports, citing a person familiar with the matter.

According to the report, SBF will appear in court on Monday to formally consent to extradition - which will pave the way for him to appear in US court to face charges that he commingled customer deposits to cover expenses and debts, and to make investments through his crypto hedge fund, Alameda Research LLC.

SBF Changes Mind On Extradition To US After Four Days In Bahamian Jail

Looks like it didn't take much of another countries incarceration to change his mind!

Seems like there was another person recently who didn't think much of foreign lock-ups!

Of course though this exposes him to potential issues here in the U.S. and none of them are good either...he may have been better with the rats in the Bahamian Islands!

As Fox News reported last week, the Bahamas prison where SBF was reportedly heading - Fox Hill - is "harsh" due to "overcrowding, poor nutrition [and] inadequate sanitation," along with cells that are "infested with rats, maggots, and insects."

"Maximum-security cells for men measured approximately six feet by 10 feet and held up to six persons with no mattresses or toilet facilities. Inmates removed human waste by bucket. Prisoners complained of the lack of beds and bedding," according to the report. "Some inmates developed bedsores from lying on bare ground. Sanitation was a general problem, and cells were infested with rats, maggots, and insects."

Sounds like good times! He'll find we're much more civilized here...maybe! We'll see if he lives long enough to answer to anyone!

Poor guy looks a touch tattered...good for him!!!

SBF deserves much worse than Bahamian prison conditions but will get off with something much more comfortable in the end I'm sure (sadly)

I'm of the mind that he knows way too much and will be suicided!

I mean there's a lot of money and a lot of folks behind that money that would just as soon this stay a dirty little secret!

I could be wrong though...there are a lot of eyes on him too now and maybe he gets off easy!

Nope, I mentioned the 40 hours. That now has passed the "clock of life " for him. He screwed the wrong people out of some very hard earned money. You just don't do that living on the streets. Any gang member will tell you that. Money to them that he screwed out of is like a drug to get buzzed out on.

Eh. I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

But I’m saddened that not a soul from 08’ saw prison. I’m at a loss that many of the pharma cats who did an opium war on America got a retirement package of sorts on their public exit.

The most regulated of industries have a severance when they are found of gross fraud against the public.

It’s telling that the real crucifixions are reserved for that of the known unregulated spaces.

Don’t get me wrong, I want to see this scumbag burn. He deserves everything he receives and more.

But godamnit, he’ll do more time than anyone responsible for financial collapses combined and multiplied. And that’s horribly telling of our financial systems. Crypto may not have offered an alternative. But if it did, we’d make sure to highlight any failure to bolster an institution no soul is held to account for fraud.

He's Maxine Water's little darling, according to rumors-and this arrest will keep him from having to tell all in a congressional investigation.

I don't know where the truth lies, but when there are such close connections to the political arena, you can bet there's some form of cover-up going on. My 'guess' would be a deal for sentencing has been worked out, and he's coming back to take his lumps. Maybe a promise of a Biden pardon in the future? Stranger things have happened....

And while Waters is hardly the only politician to have her picture taken with Bankman-Fried, her ties to FTX go deeper than that. Most notably, the photo in question also shows a woman named Allyson Maynard-Gibson, a prominent politician from the Bahamas who also worked as a lawyer for FTX—and sat behind Bankman-Fried during a congressional hearing last year. Her daughter served as FTX’s director of corporate social responsibility.

According to a Washington, D.C., source, Waters and her husband, a former ambassador to the Bahamas, have stayed at Maynard-Gibson’s home during visits to the country. (Waters’ press team did not reply to a request for comment about the extent of her ties to Maynard-Gibson and whether this could create a conflict of interest in any congressional investigation she undertakes.) But a closeness between the pair is suggested by a kiss Waters blew at her friend at the end of last year’s hearing. (Some have suggested the kiss was directed at Bankman-Fried, but a careful look at the video shows Maynard-Gibson was the intended recipient.)

None of this is meant to say Waters knew FTX was a scam. Like the rest of us, she likely learned the company was rotten only after it collapsed. But her ties to Maynard-Gibson do put her uncomfortably close to the sleazy world of Bahamian politics that helped enable Bankman-Fried in the first place.

I'm sure he's been very busy.

It takes a little time to come up with a plan, find a way to bribe the right people without leaving a money trail, find an acceptable body double, decide where to hide out for the rest of your life, etc.

makes sense, there's no white privilege in the bahamas, in the US he'll probably get to stay at a luxury prison for the rich.

This guy is looking at twenty years in federal prison with no parole.
He should get a good lawyer, plead out, and get maybe 5 to 8 years.

Well I'm sure there are multiple States ready to prosecute him at the State level if that happens...
