The Internet. It started off as "communications", right? Wasn't that the point? Uninterruptible communications. And neow it has matured, it has blossomed, right?

Then why the F cant I just Google etc my old friends name & number, and get it? Call them. Even the effing "White Pages", insists I sign up and pay money to get their most basic and essential route of communication number?

Instead, this is how awesome the fruit here is, I just pay whatever to get the basic phone number, and then I also get their police and arrest and jail records, property issue records, ALL of it, and before you know it they'll have everyones damn DNA results with all their genetic "flaws" etc.

And I just wanted their number. I'm trying to build this really cool educational concept for the little ones, of all my old friends. I'm just trying to make a phone call. I dont need a damn dossier from which perhaps I might judge them just to be able to call them. Is that the design here? You go looking for an old friends number, have to pay $2 whatever to get it, and in the process you get all the dirt their computer automatons manage to dig up and pump into the report.

Maybe I just wanna check on an old friend. Oh here's the number. Call them. All that other stuff, its up to them to even bring it up. Do they really want me all curious asking questions about 'all that'? I didnt even care, I was calling to make sure their kids had proper computers and decked out with thick educational but fun programs and games.

Nope! I'll pay $2 for the phone number, then see the arrest report, then just have to ask about it, and then torpedo the entire reunion or whatever.

Yes! Thank you Internet, for elevating my species. I'm finally enlightened, just now! In having to go through this, and realize just how backwards this BS is.

The internet does suck, ever since the average person got access to it.

But that "pay to get all the information you ever wanted" is bollocks, they're literally just going to show you what you could have found yourself if they weren't paying ad services to clog up your search results with their sales pitch.

It's snake oil, more or less.

Unfortunately these days the best way to find "old friends" is old methods - unless they're on Facebook, call some other people that might know them. Maybe an old friend of a family friends aunt, someone in a nursing home.
Those little black books do wonders, I wish I had it in me to keep my own.

Because people do not want to be found. My legal identity cannot be found online - on purpose. You can go to all of those curating sites and REMOVE YOURSELF. It would be wise for everyone to remove their identities from the internet.

You could consider that the person you are looking for has intentionally obscured their ownership of their phone number. I searched some random friends from several search engines and found some of their phone numbers in the results for free. I search myself and nada, but that is by design.

I wont need to. I'll jut punch your ATS 'name' into WhitePages.com, and then as long as I pay $2 I'll get all the highlights of a-hole things you ever said across all social media. And a genetics & lifestyle / life history reports behind it all, diorama's! So I can envision 'what' you are. Surely, one way or another, they'll have stuff in there that will dissuade me from ending up calling you. And how hard would it be to cook the reports?

Welcome to the Future. Flying cars and torpedo everyone!

Only if he uses his ATS name for other social media. Maybe if he uses the same email across platforms and has the feature to be found by his email address enabled.

I promise, I am not an actress
I also don't have TicToks.

BTW. All those sites where you can pay to look someone up. Not accurate. Save your $2.

Wrong here.

Instead, 'they' want me to have every address, phone number, social media accounts (and court records etc too) and so on this person ever had. And then every roomate they've had, every family member. Their phone numbers. Their court records. Probably their vehicles.

I just wanted to call an old friend.

But nope!

The Internet wants to turn us all into a bunch of judgemental snoops.

Which might just be more disturbing than the fact that "The Internet" in my phone watches my facial expressions and such, while I play the game I play when I'm on the crapper.

Next the White Pages will have those reports, listings of the porn and everything else we watch. It's all cataloged, by "The Internet", right?

I've been collecting email addresses since the late 80s. I have a few dozen at this point and everything I sign up for has been mixed in that.

You can find any info that is public for free if you know how to internet right and if you haven't been put on restricted access.

Well apparently, the "White Pages" is the tip of the spear on this trend. And White is RACIST. And I'm "white". And that inherently means that I'm racist. All this White Privilege. I need to be knocked down a peg. Well until I pay the $2 at least. Then I get ALL the information about them. And knowledge is power, right?

Do we have a "black" buddy reading this, you can test all this out on your own web searches??? Because if it just gives you their phone number for free (especially in the framing that you dont even have to contemplate all this drivel they've driven me to [detailed reports huh?]), hmmmm.....

The internet and computers in general. When they were something that needed to be studied to be understood, and things were quite a bit more complicated, it was much more fun and a lot more open.

That's too much work. Next year I'll just pull you up on WhitePages.com, as said, and your SSN will be right there. And I mean since the fine folks in Cameroon or wherever are going to use the data to steal your identity..............

If you think I've had or have an SSN, your research has already gone awry!

You wont obtain that info, and whatever they may post is not accurate.
Maybe your friend OPTED OUT. That is an option for ALL of these sites. Smart people do this.
Those sites are scams. This is what I am trying to tell you.

I think it’s important to remember..

No matter how anonymous a site might seem, it really isn’t.
So never say anything you wouldn’t in “real” life, because you just don’t know.

UK national insurance numbers are not available on any legal database, nor are criminal convictions unless you include the 'local newspaper published' weekly criminal convictions at open criminal courts.

I've used non contract 'burner' phones all this century lol, my council tax/electoral roll register is on the 'private' not 'public' list, and the only entity which knows my one adult criminal conviction, is 'The Crown' - I was lucky it wasn't even picked up by the court reporter lol!

Nope, I'm glad UK citizen, digital info, is not so publicly available as it is in the US, but I'd disagree that the internet "sucks".
I recently needed to get in touch with someone, I knew his address but not the number house, 200 miles distance...went to Google Street thing, zoomed on his door number, and minutes later I was handing a recorded delivery parcel at the post office.

Without the internet I would have had to travel 400 miles total return trip, just to get his address...I saw and recognised his signature (on my phone) just before 1pm the next day...the internet is the best thing since my first email address in 1996!!!🤣😁😁😁
