Ive always found the lore intriguing but always put off by strategy gameplay.

They do have some FPS style stuff and a MMO?

I know theres a few fans here so can yall drop some oponions on the IP? Id much appreciate it.

Never tried it, but read a few write-ups.

Last game the wife and I payed was Elden Ring and we conquered it, took about 80 hours. One of the most challenging we've played.

I'll check it out, but we're very persnickety about our games.

Still SnF

Strategy isn't so bad so long as it's turn-based and not real time. There is a learning curve to it, but that's where the fun is - in discovering what works and what doesn't.

My first mmorpg was the original Everquest. That was a hell of a game. You really worked for every last little bit of anything you got. My epic quest took me a year and a half to complete. There is a reason they call it epic. I was very fortunate to have been part of one of the biggest and best guilds ever to play the game.

I played WoW for a while but it never really got me going like EQ did. I tried a few others here and there. Rift was fun. Tera was also fun. Its battle system is pretty unique and some of the graphics are truly amazing.

Currently I play Guild wars 2. Its fun sometimes and sometimes its just a pain. If you like PVE this is a good game. Lots of content and a personal storyline for your character you can flow through at your own pace. There is also a WVW, World vs World, section of the game that is separate from the rest of the game. There are quite a few builds that are pretty good but, as in most games, there is always one or two that are pretty hard to beat in most circumstances.

I am always on the hunt for a new mmo to try. I will check out Warhammer.

If you like Warhammer you would definitely like Rome 2: Total War or Atilla: Total War. I love all the Total War series of games!

I started EQ right after Kunark came out. Got my SK epic somewhere around 2010.

Wow pvp was fun with friends but never cared for the lore.

GW 2 was ok. Never got into it.

I know nothing about Warhammer and was hoping there are some folks that will share some knowledge.

I was in the EQ beta and also the UO beta. My first MMO was Gemstone, I still occasionally play that all these years later. Just such a small population these days; text-based games just aren't as popular.

I have a Tyranid swarm. Painted an all, I'm happy with it. Where I am there are no fans or players so they are all boxed up until I can release them. Got books and manuals as well.

I do enjoy a good game but have lost touch with the dice rolling and am slow. Need to refer to the book.

Kind regards,

Bally

Warhammer 40k lore is the most in depth and the most brutally fascinating lores I’ve ever had the pleasure of researching. From the orcs literally making yellow painted vehicles go faster just because they believe it does too the sadistic torture and pleasure worlds of the dark eldar, and not forgetting the trillions of human meat shields of the imperial armies fed on corpse starch made from the organic matter of dead bodies! Definitely an imagination stimulant.

Also hello everyone I’ve been a lurker for at least 10 years and have now finally emerged from my dank cave, looking forward to some interesting chats.

Appreciate all the replies folks, really.

So there is Warhammer 40k. Which can be broken down into 3 components. Strategy, FPS and tabletop. Strategy and tabletop are not among my interests, and the FPS appears to be essentially DOOM with massive lore.

Then there is Warhammer Fantasy. Which appears to be FPS, and 3rd person action adventure as well as the MMO. (much more my style).

Is this about right?

Currently watching some Vermintide II and Dark Tide videos. I also vaguely remember playing the MMO years ago for abit.

I think I have it boiled down to Inquisiter-Marytr or SpaceMarine.

With Vermintide II later.

Unless someone else can recommend a jumping in point?

Warhammer is fantasy

40k is scifi 40k years into the future.

They share some lore but are different realities.

Theres fps mmo rts turn based strategy for both.

Warhammer total war is good rts with turn based campaign.

Theres a xcom like wh40k game chaos gate daemon hunters.

Heres a link showing all Warhammer games on steam

store.steampowered.com...

Inquistor is arpg like diablo it's pretty good.

Space marine 3rd person. Shooter Def worth playing spacemarine 2 is in the works.

Thanks Lys.

I went ahead and got the two above, space marine and inquisitor.

Playing space marine now, pretty damn cool.

Lots of skulls

Power armor

Jet packs

Mass killing of Shrek

What i found amazing is how many similarities Warhammer 40k has with Dune. It is said they took big inspiration from the doom lore and then made it darker and more twisted.
Apart from the RPG or FPS games id have no interest but it does make great reading - Death korp of Krieg are awesome!
