Humankind entered into the last days of this system in October of 1914. We are now 108 years along into the last days. So when does the end come?
Of course Jesus Christ said that not even he knew the day and the hour:
“
Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father."-Matthew 24:36.
But in that same chapter of Matthew 24 Jesus gave a composite sign of things that would occur during the last days up to and through the "great
tribulation" and the return of the Christ. In the next chapter (25) he talks about events directly "after the tribulation of those days" when Jesus
will separate all humankind, sheep from goats, and at that time the sheep will inherit everlasting life and the goats will receive everlasting
destruction.
That composite sign of Matthew 24:3-14 has been in fulfillment since 1914.
Now the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14 itself has been in fulfillment wherein we are told that the "good news of the kingdom will be preached"
throughout the entire inhabited earth.
I have authored several threads concerning this "kingdom" on this website including
The
Scepter and
The Incoming World Government. Here we are given to see through
Bible prophecy that God's kingdom government is established in heaven and that it is in conflict with the rulers of the world under the control of
Satan the Devil (see
this thread on Who Really Rules the World).
The religions of Christendom (Christ's kingdom on earth) have been lead to believe that Jesus' kingdom is part of Satan's world and the political
system of things. But God's true Christian congregation, his anointed witnesses, have been preaching throughout the last days about the incoming
kingdom of Christ that is heavenly and will rule for a thousand years over the earth fixing all the problems man has created in turning his back on
the Sovereign of the universe, Jehovah God.
This preaching work has gone on long enough that the people alive in 1914 when the end began have mostly died off. Now the people are fulfilling the
prophecy of 2 Peter 3 that says:
"
First of all know this, that in the last days ridiculers will come with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying:
“Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as they were from
creation’s beginning.”-2 Peter 3:3-4.
They scoff at the kingdom preaching work done by God's anointed slaves. It has been going on for so long from their viewpoint that it is a joke in
their eyes. But we are told why the end would seem to be prolonged from the viewpoint of a human in that same scripture a little further on in verses
8 and 9:
"
However, do not let this escape your notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one
day. Jehovah is not slow concerning his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire anyone to
be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance."-2 Peter 3:8-9.
So the reason the end has not yet come is because God is being patient with "you" that is, his beloved anointed Christian congregation. You see, all
throughout the last days there has been an anointing of the 144,000 who will go to heaven to rule with Jesus Christ as kings in his heavenly
government over the earth. Some of these have not totally cleansed themselves from the works of the flesh and perhaps have found themselves in a
disapproved condition before God because of falling back into gross sin. Instead of giving up on them, God has allowed the time of the end to be
prolonged in our mind, patiently dealing with his adopted children, because he does not want any of them to be destroyed but all to attain to
repentance. Those of the anointed who are in that lost condition up to this late date should take note of God's love for his children and repent of
their evil deeds. And take to heart the words of the same scripture a little further on:
"
Therefore, beloved ones, since you are awaiting these things, do your utmost to be found finally by him spotless and unblemished and in peace.
Furthermore, consider the patience of our Lord as salvation."-2 Peter 3:14-15.
That is where we come to the words of the title of this OP. In Revelation 7 we open with the words of an angel carrying the seal of God telling the
angels to hold back the four winds of destruction until all the anointed have received their final sealing:
"
After this I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding tight the four winds of the earth, so that no wind could blow on
the earth or on the sea or on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the sunrise, having a seal of the living God; and he called with a
loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying: “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until
after we have sealed the slaves of our God in their foreheads.”-Revelation 7:1-3.
In
this thread the universal war being waged between Satan and the offspring of
Genesis 3:15 is breifly mentioned. Therein we find that war in process in Revelation 12. There we are told that Satan is hurled down to earth and he
is waging war with the remaining offspring of the woman:
"
So the dragon became enraged at the woman and went off to wage war with the remaining ones of her offspring, who observe the commandments of God
and have the work of bearing witness concerning Jesus.”-Revelation 12:17.
The remaining ones of the offspring are those alive with the living seal of God, the remaining called and chosen of the 144,000.
So the end has not yet come until now because God has allowed Satan to wage war on those whom he has sealed, called and chosen. These are preaching in
all the inhabited earth about Jesus' incoming heavenly government that is to wage war against all human government and Satan and his wicked demons.
When the very last of the 144,000 will have found their repentance and endured to Jehovah God's satisfaction down until the very end, then and only
then will the 4 winds of destruction be let lose upon this wicked world.
When will that day arrive? We do not know. But we do know it is close.
In Noah's days the time of the end lasted 120 years:
"
Then Jehovah said: “My spirit will not tolerate man indefinitely, because he is only flesh. Accordingly, his days will amount to 120
years.”"-Genesis 6:3.
