With the homeless and thousands of illegals now in the city, will the city ration the heating sources only to those that can afford to pay for it. And what if black outs happen during snowstorms. Will grab and loot be the final straw for New York. Already the subway sees more then 40% decrease in ridership. Here the travel agencies are telling the Japanese not to visit New York but Hawaii.

caused by Democrat policies. there is plenty of fossil fuel available. but the media will blame the energy companies.

Schumer and AOC and company will be plenty warm, I'm sure.

I lived in New York for a while (not the city) and the only time we didn’t have electricity was when there was a massive Ice storm.

I live in one of the colder states now and the same thing here. We normally don’t have rolling black outs. During the winter it they do not shut off gas/electric because they know people will freeze to death. They will do it after a certain time in spring though.

Utility service disconnection can be scheduled in vacant units when human health or property is not threatened.

This is another reason why people don’t want squatters! If they are able to run up your utilities you have to report them stolen and go through a big headache.

The best story I found on this subject in terms of "news" is at:
www.nydailynews.com...

I am not sure how the Dems will handle this but knowing that recently the Governor of New York made a comment urging Republicans, (wealthy people/productive people) to leave the state, I would think the best way to handle this problem, (from a Progressive Marxist viewpoint) would be to tack on a steep surcharge on the "rich" people, (assuming there are any left, in NYC while ensuring that energy/electricity/heating fuels are delivered first and at reduced cost to the POC in NYC, (that's called equity) while rationing supplies to the offensive white people in the middle class who are all covered up in white privilege. That way, the more deserving POC get to stay alive while the first people to freeze to death in the dark are the awful white people whose ancestors enslaved the blacks and killed off the indigenous people.

This will, of course, greatly accelerate white flight OUT of NYC thus leaving only Democrat POC in the City thus assuring Democrats stay in office for another 100 years.

Sounds like a great plan to me!!

That is one of the most disgusting things I’ve read in a long time.

You know what they say, Be careful what you wish for it might come true.
What would NY look like without the rich. It would look like a slum.
Soon after the rich leave, the middle class would realize they are the new rich, and can’t afford anything, so they too would leave. All that would be left are the parasites of humanity, they sure aren’t paying the bills.

New York, New Jersey, Illinois, they are all learning this lesson and crying because so many people have left their state.

The population loss has big implications and those states want bodies back.
They are doing it by trying offering incentives to big companies, tax breaks. Then the companies are doing whatever it takes to try to lure their employees there. It’s NOT working, which is hilarious. Too many people have the option to work remotely.

If there is one positive that the Covid era did is it woke people up to the fact that they DO have choices!

www.illinoispolicy.org...

Illinois reported the largest outmigration of residents of any state during 2021, marking the 8th consecutive year of population decline in Illinois. Chicago similarly saw more residents move away than any metropolitan area in the nation.

well......I am sorry if I disgusted you. It was written "tongue in cheek" although I can see the Dems taking exactly such behaviors.

I hear your angst about people fleeing NYC and other such locales but, let's put politics aside for a monent and look at the "real" situation as it exists today.

What would NY look like without the rich. It would look like a slum.

Actually, it already does; a slum with high rise office buildings that are 40~50% vacant. Yea, policies have ramifications, but think about it from another perspective. One day in 2019/2020 people in NYC woke up to a Pandemic and discovered that they were "trapped" on the 16th floor of their apartment building with no way out because they only let one or two people at a time ride the elevators. The only way out was the stairs and then could return only by climbing 16 flights of stairs. And when they got to "ground" level, the stores were closed and they couldn't get any food.

You have a family? You gonna go back to THAT scenario? I seriously doubt it.

So the Pandemic openned up "remote work" and people moved out as fast as humanly possible and no, they are not going back. People discovered they had options.

In the mean time, the NYC DA decided, "no more bail". You attack someone with a hammer, you get arrested and you're back on the street the same day. Crime is entirely out of control; subway ridership is STILL 50% below pre-pandemic highs. There's really NO safe way to get around the city anymore. Gangs of feral youth have taken over entire blocks of Greenwich Village. The cops have bailed en masse and what's left of the cops appear to be on permanent stand-down orders.

Sorry to burst your bubble.........it's not coming back. These Democrat administrations have taken Detroit as their model of municipal governance. If you want to see the future, go to Detroit and take one of the "Abandonned Detroit" bus tours.

You know it's done when they start moving the precious art and artifacts OUT of the NY Metropolitian Museum of Art.....to save them.

I thought you were writing about Chicago for a second!

I was shocked when I visited the city and a lot of the flagship stores were gone.
Water tower place half empty.

The cost to stay at a hotel is astronomical when all the charges are included, parking can easily cost 80 bucks a day alone.

I moved out of New York state (not NYC) over 2 years ago, when the previous governor told us that all Republicans should move because "we don't want you here". I enjoyed my new state so much, I've since recruited at least 10 families to relocate as well.

Due to the rhetoric of him and his replacement, I no longer care what happens in that hell hole.

TonyS speaks the truth, whether you can see it or not. Please re-read "Atlas Shrugged" - America looks more and more like the world of that novel every year. I think it's by design. Your disgust does not alter the facts about a war (in all but name) against the white race. Zimbabwe, South Africa...and you think it can't happen here?

It's what they vote for, but at least freezing to death isn't racist and there are no mean tweets.

It may be disgusting, but it's reality. I find a lot of truth there no matter how cynically delivered.

But then the problem is there won't be any money left to tax. No money for the swindle, theft, and grab. Even the Democrats will leave when the money runs out.

Of course the movie Escape from New York has a good idea what to use the ruins for.
