IMO the majority of the conscripts from the latest call-up are serving in under-equipped static units. The Russians probably borrowed from the German playbook (WW2) and reconstituted existing units. Those units' fate in Ukraine is destroyed in combat or surrendered to Ukrainian front-line units.

Are the Russian conscripts who wish to turn against Putin's regime Prisoners of War? If those men in Russia are experiencing dire shortages in equipment and training, they lack the means to start a revolt or a second civil war in Russia. However, when the disaffected Russians obtain weapons and supplies via theft and bribery, the journey to Putin's downfall takes another step.

I think the winter months are going to highlight just exactly how underprepared and undersupplied the Russian forces are if they remain in Ukraine.

I expect mass desertion and/or death as result.

I am hoping that the Russian troops realize that their leaders have betrayed them as they suffer in their snow covered trenches.
