Ok, that pic has almost nothing to do with the thread. I caught it Saturday morning and just posted it to brag. He was 17 lbs and fought like a Great White. It was an epic battle between Man and Nature.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. [ it actually was a pretty good fight ]

Anyway....I went fishing again this morning. Left the house, stopped and got gas, then headed for the river and when I got there, it was still pitch dark. I decided to sit for a bit, drink some coffee and wait for at least a sliver of light to show. While I was killing time, I noticed the miles on my truck and knew, just KNEW today was going to suck. 150,666 miles.

Now, fishermen are superstitious folks to begin with. We have our lucky hats, shirts, lures, etc. And to tell you the truth....it creeped me out a little.
I'm miles from anywhere, by myself sitting in the dark and THAT pops up. I got a grip and told myself, "Look, if a demon from Hell wants you, some glass and metal ain't gonna stop it so quit being a wuss and let's go fishin' "
Which I did....with my hand a little closer to my Glock than usual.

Now, when I went Saturday morning, I was bait in the water at 6:30 A.M. and home by 8:00 A.M. with that fish.

Today.....bait in the water by 6:30, left the river at 10:00 completely empty handed. Not a bite or even the slightest nibble.
Same spot, same time of day, same bait.....nothin.

Satan has it in for me.

Do you think that it would have happened anyway if you wouldn't have taken notice?
the mind is very powerful, and water is very much affected by it....

Yep, that's what did it.

You'll have to be more careful to drive that extra 111 (actually only 55.5 each way) miles to 777, which will overpower ANY other bad luck.

Amateur.

Saturday's was a hell of a catch...nice'en

After some thought, I'd like to give that a serious answer. The answer is, I really don't know. Do we somehow influence circumstances without knowing we're doing it ?

Everything, to me, was the same as Saturday. But, being on top of the water, we can't see if something under the water has changed. Different current, bait fish [ which attract bigger fish ] have left the area or.....we're putting off a psychic vibe that drives them away.

All I know is that some days the fishing is great and the next day is a waste of time to even try.

Judging from the size of your Tailgate...

Gotta be 2 & 1/2 to 3 feet long. Surprised you got a Catfish and not a dirty Carp.

I believe you when you say it felt like a Great White.

Good catch.👍

Fishing is never a waste of time...

I bet you learned something that day. If not about fishing in general then likely about yourself. At least that's how I try and look at the days I get skunked.

Strange you should mention that. It's when I do most of my best thinking. All alone, it's dead quiet and nothing but me and the water.
Sometimes, in the early hours when it's dark and a barge goes by, I think of Huck....

Once or twice of a night we would see a steamboat slipping along in the dark, and now and then she would belch a whole world of sparks up out of her chimbleys, and they would rain down in the river and look awful pretty; then she would turn a corner and her lights would wink out and her powwow shut off and leave the river still again; and by and by her waves would get to us, a long time after she was gone, and joggle the raft a bit, and after that you wouldn't hear nothing for you couldn't tell how long, except maybe frogs or something.

Everything is relative ...

It's a matter of perspective ...

The fish proclaimed that today was a good day, as they had not lost any kin.

As compared to horrific Saturday, when they lost their beloved Big-Poppy.

Poor Big-Poppy, here one minute, then snatched by invisible hands the next.

We told him to stay away from the sliver of light !

Why was he abducted by aliens ! ? ! ?

Why ! ? ! ?
