Legal migrants come in multiple categories. I would say that the numbers of asylum seekers is a concern.

Well, depending on the country of origin — cartel death squads, death threats, families of those that have simply disappeared — there ample grounds for migrants to seek asylum. Also, it is considered a way to gain entry to the US on legal grounds.

Unless, you would rather they enter illegally so that you may relish a reason for their possible deportation.

I have no issue with those seeking safety from threats of harm seeking asylum through proper venues.

World agreements regarding asylum are 'first safe country'. Mexico is considered a safe country. This is how 'remain in Mexico' works. Under Trump, refugees must first apply for asylum in Mexico.

When applying for asylum in the US, most are denied when and if they appear in court. Of those, only 30% are approved. Thats a large majority of people rejected.

Considering that court dates being assigned are now in 2027. So just saying the correct words at the border will get you inside with a court date in 4 years. As of a few days ago, the admin wanted to just drop the court date assignment all together, why I don't know! A federal judge yesterday said no, you have to assign dates.

The situation is completely FUBAR and we are all suffering because of it. Those of us that live in the SW US have known the time bomb was coming for the last 50 years. It's blowing up now. The rest of the country is starting to give AF....slowly.

The welfare system in the US encourages fatherless children in some demographics. And I will bet that many asylum seekers get busy making little Americans upon arrival also. It helps them remain. A crew of toddlers, all American citizens born while parents are waiting for their court date four years away, will greatly help their cause. How can Americans be deported back to Central America with a parent being denied asylum?
