An ad popped up on my screen for a Korean blanket. It's a thick fuzzy blanket that all Asian households use during the winter.
However that is not what I'm going to talk about. What it go me thinking about is how blankets today are terrible. They aren't that warm,
they don't wash well, they are too small. Some of these new microfiber ones are downright awful!

Back in the day we had REAL blankets. I have one that was made in Germany... Oh those Germans know how to engineer things!!
This blanket is at least 42 years old and it still looks great, but more importantly it's still freaking warm!!! I don't think it is wool, it is some kind of synthetic wool that they obviously don't make anymore. I mean, it wouldn't be good for planned obsolescence would it, only buying a new blanket every 50 years! The warmth is very different than the fabrics today. It is breathable and soft, and is able to keep the heat in very well, yet it is light too. It is easily washable and does not wear. They know how to make clothes, shoes and household goods that have extreme longevity but it just wouldn't be profitable. That is how we get back to being truly eco friendly but nobody wants to talk about.

They sure don't make things the same anymore.

My favorite 'baby' blanket, has supported all 3 of my kids. Mom did some mending. But things last if we support them.

If it's not a "These damn kids today," it's a "back in my day" post or both. Did you just have a birthday recently? Standing on top of the hill and looking around?

My oldest blanket is the one my uroma made for me, and I'm going to give it to my kid if I ever have one.

I got a couple of crazy quilts from the 1920's 0r 30's from an auction.
They're all in mint condition and we occasionally take them out and use them.
Each one is a work of art.

I also still have the quilt my grandmother made for me when I was born.

I have this old knitted looking thing that my parents had before I was born. It's sort of pink and white. They used it as packing material when we moved, and it never migrated back to them. It's older than I am, so probably more than 50 years. It looks old, but it still holds up even as it looks its age.
