One Billion Snow Crabs GONE Crabbing Season Cancelled

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game canceled the Bering Sea snow crab fishing season this week for the first time ever after the species’ population dropped by 90% in two years. The fishery of the red king crab in Bristol Bay was also canceled for the second year in a row.

Hmm. This is really interesting. They don’t know why, disease, climate change, something else?

This feels very unsettling, and not just because I love me some crab.
There is a part of me that wonders if China has something to do with this. They have an insatiable appetite for crustaceans.
Anyone in the industry have any guesses?

I would likely to blame the Fishery in the area for the likely decline.

Its the Coast Guard duty to prevent unwanted, un declared Fishery in the area.


90% is a bit huge number for just climate change to be responsible for the decline its why Fishery i blame it for the decline more of a suspect.

How many degrees has the ocean in that area risen ? If not anything substantial I would rule out climate change . In the ocean animals like their homes and tend to stay until there is a disturbance and then they move along even coral will do this totally separate from their skeletons and float along until they fin a suitable habitat to survive in .

No temp change means something environmental and that would be a disaster meaning there is something terribly wrong .

You can not blame over fishing crabs multiply by the millions .
