It appears that If you sanction Russian energy, there are flow-on effects that must be taken into consideration. In the Dark old days of the Soviet Union whatever the tension the Gas always flowed, it was essential for Germany the cheap gas to allow it to industrialize and backed the currency. We are seeing that at the moment that if Russian energy gets cut off so do most of the things that we take as a given, it is far more important than most realize. The point is that no matter what the propaganda without Russia's energy the world is heading for a depression that will make the nineteen thirties look like a walk in the park.
The Pacific shipping is down about 70% demand has dropped China is at a loss and is just doing lockdowns to make it look good. Someone said when Amazon stops free returns we are close to real problem. Well, they have stopped. I might be all a strange twisted narrative that just accidentally coincided with the Reset, but, things might get so dire that the invasion of Russia might be well in the minds of the Western elite. That is perhaps what Putin is most worried about given the west's history of spreading democracy to oil-rich countries. Check this out it makes sense.

The Japanese yen will probably hit 180 yen to the dollar. Biden is truly destroying the peoples hope of having a normal life.
You see, we here import natural gas and oil and now it cost about 40% more.
The import stores now will be either raising their prices by as much as 50% or they simply will go out of business.
The funny thing about all this is that here we have had an explosion of restaurants serving American beef. McDonald's just raised the price of a freakn hamburger to a buck fifty, can you believe that bs, a buck fifty for a freakn hamburger .
People with money are actually trying to get into japan. its a silent invasion, but just 2 years ago over 200000 people were caught over saying in Japan and put in jail and then sent back to their country.

They honestly thought the Russian invasion was wrong, like most of the world.

It's not just because the US is telling them to do it. The only countries not against it have economic or strategic ties with Russia so they cant say they're against it and join in the sanctions.

Notice that basically no one is saying that they're for it and support Russia in its noble quest of human rights and freedom.

I think Russia thought the invasion was wrong but by their rationale were forced into it, and now they are committed thay have to make it pay. I doubt they are operating a charity.

Democracy is what the people want... and what the people want is whatever the elite and their mainstream news outlets say the people want.

Democracy has been hijacked, it's not for we the people, it is a tool for them.

The world economy will adjust and speculators will boom/bust depending on the toss of a coin.

Not sure Russia's economy will adjust very well, because it lost the opportunity to diversify under the oligarchs and corruption, so is completely dependent on the export of gas, oil and stuff dug out of the ground.

In the joined-up world, the impact of a blip in the world economy will not mean that Russia sells its gas elsewhere, because the "elsewhere" e.g. China will have reduced demand due to the drop in people buying Chinese goods.

One good thing will come out of all of this. Countries will be more independent with energy, and that will lead to an increase in renewables. Germany and others will learn that relying on authoritarian regimes, like Russia, never ends well.

All's well, that ends well.

"Russia's main exports are: fuels and energy products (63 percent of total shipments, of which crude oil and natural gas accounted for 26 percent and 12 percent respectively)"

Methinks it will hurt Russia as much as it will anywhere else.

Unlikely.

Russia as a whole has been conditioned for decades to weather hardships like this. The west on the other hand...

We all have a normalcy bias and an addiction to modern conveniences.

Most people in Europe and America wouldn't last long without basic necessities like water and electricity. As we just expect those things to be in abundance and supplied by the establishment. I feel the next few years will be a wake up call for many.

Do they have democracy in Russia?

Is their State News independent and free to criticize their Govt?

How are Opposition parties and Putin's political opponents treated?

Etc

I'm watching BBC News right now and it is being extremely critical of our Govt and our PM in particular.

Does Russian state media lead with scathing criticism of Putin?

Considering 60% of Russian land amounts to permafrost, i think we may last longer than our Russian cousins.

Thats because our respective societies and economies allow for an abundance of things, Russia's not so much.

They will fold long before the West simply because we are united in our goal, well NATO is anyway.

And all because of the actions of Putin, welcome to the next cold war.

But the Rouble is strengthening, As all the BRICS take up the slack on their energy production. They are still exporting to 80% of the world. It is the only energy that has allowed the vast expansion of our present standard of living. Or so we are led to believe. If every house had a roof and wall solar panels. The power supply wouldn't be a worry, It was never rolled out en masse because it would be hard to charge people through the nose. I know quite a few people who have a couple of solar panels that run things, It all smacks like a setup.

Is that not down to restrictions on foreign investors and margin trading that the Rouble is strengthening?

Its unstainable at best.

In the long run our markets and energy demands can be fixed and addressed.

Where as Russia are heading down a path thats about to take them off a cliff anonentity.

They will be considered European pariahs both socially and economically on the world stage for generations to come should they continue their antics in Ukraine.

Solar panels and even other green energy sources are simply not geared towards or will be able to meet future energy demands.

Fact is the future is nuclear fission power generation until fusion power materializes.
