I brought this up in a thread a few months ago but I remember a few years ago that Putin was sick with some type of auto-immune disease and possibly cancer. I had heard the rumor that as a result he was taking Human Growth Hormone and Testosterone to help with the treatment but also help with anti-aging etc. Those drugs will cause changes in facial features etc. Just look at Stallone as an example as he has been vocal about his hormone therapy and he has changed appearance in my opinion.

That said it is also possible and likely that he has many doubles etc and then you have teh conspiracy that he died/was executed several years ago and the avatar we see now is just that.
