The Army fell about 15,000 soldiers — or 25% — short of its recruitment goal this year, officials confirmed Friday, despite a frantic effort to make up the widely expected gap in a year when all the military services struggled in a tight jobs market to find young people willing and fit to enlist.

I wonder if this is specific to the US or if it's a trend globally.

It would be nice if everyone just never bothered to join the worlds armies as there would be no troops for the wars our leaders seem so keen on creating.

Well only in Western Countries/US specifically are pushing woke agenda polices or gender issues i am sure that has nothing to do with why their recruiting goals are low currently.

Its a whole lot of reasons, not the least of which is how the military is treated on a daily basis. We put illegals up in hotels and give them free everything but our troops get called to DC to defend lazy politician butts who then force them to sleep on the ground in a parking garage and get paid next to nothing for doing it.

The VA has been a disaster in virtually every respect. Thousands upon thousands of former military are either homeless or close to it, do not get the help they were promised or deserve, and are typically hated by a growing segment of our society for toxic masculinity and being part of the conservative war machine.

Then add to that the idea that they know the odds are far greater that they will end up on foreign soil fighting someone else's battle than they will be on US soil fighting for their own people. They are not joining the US military any more. They are joining the world's police force. I already did my time in the military, but I wouldn't enlist now. Not a chance in hell.

Lots of soldiers with combat experience are being passed over for promotion and command positions for diversity

The mobile phones is the military's worst enemy these days. As Vietnam era Veteran it saddens me when POTUS can call us soldiers " dumb jackasses" . NO, I would not enlist in today's environment .

Well soon enough as long as you can operate a video game they can put you into the military. Atleast until a massive solar event.

Not to mention most of the quality soldiers and operators get paid way better as security contractors.
