Spoke to a customer in Tallahassee He said Tampa is likely to be underwater 8 ft or so depending on tide level when it hits

Your prediction is much better than what MSNBC is giving. They have it stalling for 9 hours off of Tampa, and destroying the city.

They are really hoping to make Ron Desantis look as bad as possible.

I remember having 3ft of water in my backyard from Floyd.

Then having no electricity or hot water for a week after Sandy.

As a SWFL resident these are some of the links I prefer to check status of the hurricane with no spin or journalist on canoe with .5" of water on the street or guy in rain coat leaning forward.

I'll be worried about all the Gators getting swepted up by flooding and swimming next to Floridians(ites?)....

As a long term SW Floridian living right on the water , I'm more worried about the pythons being pushed from the everglades up north toward us.

Up here in northern NJ we were hammered by Floyd, my husband and I were in the process of moving and had put furniture and clothing, etc. in a storage unit, along with my book collection (some of which was valuable), when Floyd hit and we lost everything in storage. That was 1999.
2011 was Hurricane Irene, we lost our vehicle and everything in the basement, 8 feet of water.
2012 was Sandy, we were standing on the sidewalk in front of the house and saw the tidal wave coming down the street in our direction.

Last year after Hurricane Ida finished barreling through, I saw people standing in front of their homes weeping. They had lost everything in their basements and first floors.

My father is battoning down the hatches as we speak.

I hope to get the all clear from him after this all blows over.

I hope his area isn't hit too hard.

Hearing a number of our stores closing early all over the Florida peninsula, it kind of stinks it's a decent retail time of year, and lots of outside events in Florida that are gonna need to be canceled, home coming season, weddings etc.

It looks like the Ft. Meyers/Bonita Springs area and north to Tampa are going to get supersoaked.
They are sitting right in the surge zone of a really slow moving storm.
That counter-rotation really brings in the water. Especially when it just sits there like expected.

FWIW here's a video from 90 miles away from Cuba, pretty intense, here's to it weakening before landfall

I'm just a little further south from there and its been raining pretty much all day already.
Should be fun to monitor as I'm right on a canal.

If you choose to live in California on the San Andreas fault you need to be prepared for 9.0 magnitude earthquakes like the one on 1901 In San Francisco.

If you live in the Midwest you need to be prepared for F5 Tornadoes.

If you build your house on the beach and choose to live right on the beach in Florida or any of the east coast or gulf states you need to be prepared for a major Hurricane.

These weather events have been known to humans for over 400 years but people still choose to live in these places saying it will never happen here.

If your house gets demolished because you built a house on sand in the beach and it’s not hurricane proof I Am sorry it’s hard for me to feel sympathy.

At this moment, the White House has a few women who have been answering questions on the Florida hurricane situation, and a male reporter had the guts to ask this woman Why the president has Not called De Santis on this emergency, as has been done in the past.
The woman replied that 'the president is very focused on plans' for the situation, blah blah.
Cheers to that reporter for asking the tough question!

Stay safe! My sister in law decided to stay, she's in Cape Coral on a canal, and I had to yell at her to put her shutters up this morning. She was waffling about doing it. My brother passed away last year, but she has a teenage son or neighbors who could help.

We have a condo on Sanibel that I was planning on staying through at least the month of October in, but I've canceled my flight for Saturday and will wait to hear regarding damage. Fingers crossed for all of you in the path.
