Five British POWs Held by Russian-backed separatists released in Prisoner Swap

Aiden Aslin, John Harding and Shaun Pinner along with 2 other British nationals have been released along with over 200 Ukrainian fighters held by Russian proxies in Eastern Ukraine , the deal was brokered by Saudi officials.

Five Britons are among almost 300 people released in a prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine overnight.

Three of them have been identified as Aiden Aslin, John Harding and Shaun Pinner, who were captured by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine in April.

"We're now out of the danger zone and on our way home to our families," said Mr Aslin.

"By the skin of our teeth," Mr Pinner added.

Following the death sentences passed by the Russian backed Kangaroo court this is a good news story for all involved.

Most of the people freed in the prisoner exchange are Ukrainian,including many soldiers from the Azov regiment, which gained fame for its defence of the final stronghold in Mariupol.

Mr Harding was among the small group of soldiers who were holed up inside the Azovstal steelworks in the southeastern port city.

Ten other foreigners have been released to Saudi Arabia before they return home, including Moroccan Brahim Saadoun, Americans Alexander Drueke and Andy Huynh, a Croatian, and a Swedish national.

Russia says 55 members of its military have been returned as part of the deal.

Moscow's defence ministry has said that 55 of its servicemen have been returned to Russia in the largest prisoner exchange deal with Ukraine since the start of the war in February.

In its daily briefing, the ministry said the fighters - from Russia's armed forces and its proxies in the Russian-backed separatist regions of eastern Ukraine - had been transported to Russia on a military plane and are being given health checks.

I'm especially attached to the Shaun Pinner release and its a MASSIVE RELIEF for me personally

I got quite attached, Early on during the war Russian soldiers posted his ID/passport in a Russian telegram channel i was following for Geolocation efforts, they're fking stupid these guys man lol, anyway

I looked him up on Facebook and found he was once in the British Army Royal Anglian Regiment 1st Battalion (Vikings) rifleman and didn't live all that far away from me, i took a special attachment to him because i was in the Second Battalion (Poachers) for a time, so i was routing hard for the guys survival

It looked like he'd gone to Ukraine before 2019 with the British Army, possibly training Ukrainians, and had settled with a Ukrainian woman, just a guess, but then he joined the Ukrainian Marines 2019, read a lot of his comments and posts on his FB, and friends posting concerned about him and he said its my home i live here, many people were calling him silly and to get home

So i had a little background on him and obviously hoped he was ok after his ID/passport found in Mariupol, was his body far behind?

As the net grew smaller around Mariupol and thinking any day now i'm gonna see his dead body on one of these feeds? surely?

Weeks went passed and nothing, man i looked at a LOT of dead bodies but most were Russian spaghetti

So to me he was obviously one of the last men standing in Mariupol, The training this guy got from the British Army kept him alive IMO

And then one day it all come to an end

One morning i see him taken as a POW as one of the last from the plant

I knew what was coming... they're gonna say hes British forces but the background story was already there years ago to show he was in the Ukrainian Marines in 2019 onward

The other Guy however Aiden Aslin was probably a Merc, fought in other conflicts in Syria

Anyway, I look forward to hearing Shaun Pinner story & accounts, sounds like he got caught up in a right mare, and is undoubtedly going to get some medals and battalion wide hero recognition, lol fair play bro, welcome home
