I mean with the way the last 3 years has gone, I dont doubt for a second that this wont have any ulterior motives....

I saw the article on IGN and then a link to another site

Scientists Create Remote Controlled Cyborg Cockroaches

Honestly, it's not as bad as it sounds
sure,sure

Robobug: a rechargeable, remote-controllable cyborg cockroach

An international team led by researchers at the RIKEN Cluster for Pioneering Research (CPR) has engineered a system for creating remote controlled cyborg cockroaches

so how will they control/power these autonomous hybrid monsters

This requires wireless control of their leg segments, powered by a tiny rechargeable battery. Keeping the battery adequately charged is fundamental—nobody wants a suddenly out-of-control team of cyborg cockroaches roaming around. While it’s possible to build docking stations for recharging the battery, the need to return and recharge could disrupt time-sensitive missions. Therefore, the best solution is to include an on-board solar cell that can continuously ensure that the battery stays charged

while its stated they are being developed for the greater good.....ring any bells

Researchers have been trying to design cyborg insects—part insect, part machine—to help inspect hazardous areas or monitor the environment

altogether now with a sinister Bond villan laugh

I know someone who was doing similar stuff with dragonflies and that was years ago!

Including programming them with face recognition.

Scary.

Hell, at this point if someone invented a better, healthier cheesecake, I'd be suspicious.

no 'vaccines' in there......

misting our air with chemicals, 'vaccines'

spraying our atmosphere with who knows what

genetically modifying mosquitoes and setting them loose

humanity is stupid

Sometimes I think the gnostics had it right.

When the subtitle of ANYTHING is that snarky casual tone they are using these days saying 'honestly, it's not that bad'
It really IS that bad and worse.
Predictive programming.

Idiots.

I have read about similar projects going back years.
Makes you wonder if any have been successfuly deployed.

For off the books assainations imagine the potential-these controlable bugs could quite easily administer a toxin to a sleeping VIP/enemy.
Not only that-they are small enough to enter/exit highly secure areas through the plumbing or straight up walls.
Pretty hard to defend against.
Or how about this-You get a few million of them and make each one carry a gram or two of high explosive-then set them off tunneling underneath a target building.
Maybe it woud take a few weeks or months but eventualy you have a giant bomb ready to go under the enemy HQ.
Also great for industrial espionage-a bug with a camera could sneak into secret areas just by climing onto the right persons shoe.
So many possibilities,no wonder people are working on it.

Exactly right. About the camera thing.

I don't have any direct knowledge about the other stuff, but it wouldn't surprise me.

They did it in "The Fifth Element" years ago.

I've seen this before. I remember them adding in a bit of a horror aspect saying that the cockroach is still alive and unable to resist the control signals. So, it's literally just a slave aware that it's being controlled yet unable to do anything about it.

Can't wait for the human applications.
