Age restrictions

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but figured I'd post anyway. I'm a big fan of age restrictions in politics, always have been. If you are too young to be in office for a variety of reasons, then you can be too old for office as well. So if we imposed an age restriction for all elected state and federal level govt critters, what would that look like? Aside from the fact that we would certainly lose a large percentage of our current politicians, moving forward what would that play out like? We have plenty of younger folks who 'could' be in office, many of who have been brought up in our current school system, be that good or bad. It may very well be one of those situations where we should be careful what we ask for, we may just get it. Will the younger new politicians be poorly educated by a public school system and doom us all to repeat our past mistakes? Will we have a fresh new look unbiased by the corruption they were not a part of for a lifetime? Will they just learn quickly how to be as corrupt? So many questions!

What say you, what do you think the face of the political systems would look like if we were to get rid of anyone over say 70 years old?

Id be more in favor of a simple civil and constitutional aptitude test.

Results being publicly available.

I think there should at least be some trivia and then maybe a physical challenge, so finally when you get to the end you can run the obstacle course, maybe win some sweet loot.

So yes, it should be more like Double Dare.

Forget the age BS.
To be elected for office a few requirements need to be in place.

1. Must be an American citizen.
2. Must put the interest of " ALL " Americans in their best interest.
3. Must obey the common sense laws that have been laid down from the creation of America's Liberty.
4. All people running for office must have graduated from High School or have an GED .
5. Those running for office MUST take a Cognitive test and pass it with 100% perfect score. Don't want someone that can't
subtract 100 minus 7 in their head down to the remaining number.
6. Must go through a physical test of endurance. ( don't want someone falling asleep at the wheel )
7. All income must be disclosed, if not OUT OF OFFICE. ( FORGET THEM FANCY A$$ FINES FOR POLITIANS )
8. Agree not to tax the homeowner's to where it's unfeasible to have your own garden. ( by the way, this is MIM's new
Street talk ) who'd ever thought now they are taxing the owners that have their own drinking water, in other words,
NO LONGER own your water rights

If you look at past political races, 99% of the time the one who spent the most money on their campaign wins. When it takes one million plus just to become a state representative, you're not starting out with a level playing field.

Everybody wants term limits and age limits or cognitive testing for the geriatric fossils, but few understand that requires a convention of states.

Convention of States is the use of Article V of the U.S. Constitution, an amendment proposal, interstate convention, that has high thresholds to meet before it can ever be called. The purpose, like purchasing a house, is recognizing the need to restore a strong effective foundation. The Founding Father's created a method should the Republic they designed need to be restored to its original enumerated powers.

Sounds doable, right? Not so fast!

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.1

I'm pretty sure there aren't enough politicians in any capacity whose purpose is representing the people who pay their lucrative salaries, or would stand for draining the swamp. Also, if the money were taken out of politics 99% of the current swamp creatures would jump ship.

It depends on how much authority American voters should have.

You can take away some of their authority by setting age limits, min and max.

Ok...someone else said and 25 yr old minimum...that person was clueless.

Prob not likely to get your 5-7 yrs schooling for a B.A. plus take a law exam, pass it, get licensed...then go into politics...at 25.

Those nitwits guys are our future...yet dont understand any of the process for politics.

I've always understood the 35 yr minimum. You don't know anything at 25... unless your Gen George Armstrong Custer..(look it up)...

Agree..college, degree 1, degree 2, pass Bar Exam, become a lawyer....about 30+ up is good....and a Topping I think...maybe not 65...more like 50. That difference might help.

Old enough to get the exper first, then reaching about 50...we slow down, body starts to slow.

age limits to be elected and cut off for all elected officials.
term limits for all government positions that means all agencies, and supreme court judge lifetime seats done away with and they should be voted for.

there are a few more i could suggest, that would truly make this a democratic republic ran for the people, by the people
which it isn't now.

1. Minimum of 25 years old to hold any office at all. Leave other age minimums in place that currently exist.

2. Max age at election of any office - 65.

3. May not serve at any age once eligible for Social Security retirement.

3. Term limits for all. Max 5 terms in Congress, any portion of it, or 20 years total. 2 term max for POTUS still.

4. May not work for any aspect of the federal government, except for military service, once 10 years in any political office have been completed.

5. Max of 30 years employment for any personnel in the alphabet soup or any other federal agency.

6. Age minimums and maximums apply to all federal service of any kind.

I don't want an age test. I want a CIVICS test. Like we had back in school.

None of this "free form", "I know what's right" type interpretation. PROVE that you know how the government is supposed to work and THEN you can hold office.

Some type of education in political sciences should be required to hold office imo.

Voting age should be raised to 23 since that is the new 18, we are devolving...
