Taiwan Shoots Down Chinese Drone Violating Air Space

Quick and Simple. Chinese drones have a pattern of violating Taiwan airapace. So now Taiwan is taking appropriate measures to keep their air apace clear of undetermined threats. Satellites work better anyways.

Taiwan's military for the first time shot down an unidentified civilian drone that entered its airspace near an islet that sits next door to China's Xiamen city on Thursday, after the government vowed to take tough measures to deal with an increase in such intrusions.

The defence command for Kinmen, a group of Taiwan-controlled islands opposite China's Xiamen and Quanzhou cities, said in a statement released by Taiwan's defence ministry that the drone entered restricted air space over Lion Islet just after midday (0400 GMT).

Troops on the islet tried warning it away but to no effect, so shot it down, with the remains landing in the sea, it added.

Drones are expendeable. So probably no escalations from here.

How will China see it though?

Seems like they would use any excuse at this point.

What are they waiting for?

China's foreign ministry, which on Monday dismissed Taiwan's complaints about drones as nothing "to make a fuss about", referred questions to the defence ministry, which had yet to comment.

Does not seem like they really care. The specification of the drone is not made clear. Could have been a small store drone as far as we know.

I find it hard to believe that apathy has a place.

Especially given the temperature.

But who knows, could simply be a tempest in a teapot.

The article says it was a civilian drone.

They are waiting on someone to take notice of how big and bad they *think they* are. That is all.

Emperor Xi is a coward, loud mouth, and imbecilic man. He knows China stands no chance vs the myriad of countries that have vowed to protect Taiwan.

You know how cheap, chinese knock off products are basically always trash? Well, that is what the entire chinese military arsenal consists of. Look at images of the planes, transport trucks, navy carriers... They are all look alike "American". Not to mention, the chinese army was last at war when? Their only chance would be help from Russia, and they have their hands full at the moment.

I'm not saying I don't like chinese people at all, but China is worse than North Korea in my opinion. They have managed to stay in relation with other countries of the world meaning they have influence and money where North Korea doesn't.

Don't be so sure. The cheap, low-end disposable appliances they sell to us in the west is often trash. But a lot of high end electronics, still made in China, is of a very high standard.

Just like with our own military capabilities, we only see what they want us to see. We do not see the secret technology, the under-development weaponry. Who knows what China with their resources and labour pool have waiting to be unleashed? Underestimate them at your peril.

It depends on where the drone was. Taiwan's international airspace was expanded by the US.

As they should shoot down any aircraft that violates their air space.
