UN cites possible crimes vs. humanity in China’s Xinjiang

GENEVA (AP) — China’s discriminatory detention of Uyghurs and other mostly Muslim ethnic groups in the western region of Xinjiang may constitute crimes against humanity, the U.N. human rights office said in a long-awaited report Wednesday, which cited “serious” rights violations and patterns of torture in recent years.

The report seeks “urgent attention” from the U.N. and the world community to rights violations in Beijing’s campaign to root out terrorism.

U.N. human rights chief Michelle Bachelet, facing pressure on both sides, brushed aside multiple Chinese calls for her office to withhold the report, which follows her own, much-criticized trip to Xinjiang in May. Beijing contends the report is part of a Western campaign to smear China’s reputation.

Allow me to be the first to say, duh.

The genocide occurring in China hasn't exactly been a secret. It's been known about for years. And still the UN is not willing to call it what it is. Instead they tiptoe around the issue by saying that China may be guilty of human rights violations.

It reminds me of how the Armenian Genocide is treated. We can't officially call it a genocide or recognize it happened because it may piss off a country we rely on. Instead we'll just hint at the fact and give some platitudes while continuing to funnel billions of dollars to the responsible parties.

I'm surprised they released the report at all. Most of our so-called leaders seems to be totally in China's pocket.

Ever notice how nobody seems to care a bit about "crimes against humanity" unless it's whites/Europeans who are doing it? People in Africa can be slaughtered by the millions, and you're lucky if it even makes the evening news. Venezuela is now officially the worst migrant crisis in the world, surpassing even Syria, but nobody seems to care about either country.

It'a about time China got some attention about the detention of the Uyghurs.
China and Russian use of propaganda factories to hide these kinds of crimes whilst at the same time stoking fires within America and Europe needs to be under the spot light.
China and Russian are quick to try and turn the conversation away from any wrong doings.

China is really shooting themselves in the foot. You piss of the Muslims you're going to have serious problems. Especially they way China is doing them.

Here in the UK our most likely soon new Prime minister Lizz Truss has recently said she will declare China a threat to national security if she gets the job.

I agree with her-but I knew this at least 2 decades ago and I do not profess to be some genius level geopolitical savant by any stretch.
Western governments must have seen this coming and what did they do?
Encourage everyone to trade with china and build them into an almost superpower nation..

Western governments use the excuse that they must trade with "unsavory regimes" so we can influence them to become better,fairer countries.
Hows that working out?

China is in a really bad situation. Their double digit growth for the past 10+ years has been a scam. They been loaning money in a scheme where only 10% of the loan is actually money. So they loan 1 million and when they get 100k back they loan anther million rinse and repeat into the trillions. So if they got 10 trillion in loans only about 100 billion or less is real money being traded back and forth and it is all coming down on them now as sooner or later Ponzi schemes do. Their real estate is dead and 1 billion people have put all their life savings into it as another big failure. Buildings are not being used, many are unlivable after even 10 years with poor contraction cutting all corners to keep that double digit growth going, and all the builders are going bankrupt as loan payments are due.

Add on all this and China is not the cheapest place anymore for manufacturing just as was the case with Japan and Korea. The foreign investments are drying up for not only this, but China has made it exceedingly harder for foreign companies to do business there with extreme rules, regulations and costs.

Now comes the cherry on the top. By 2050 China will have a population below 600k as they are in a death spiral of not having enough babies to keep the population going, so they all grow old and die off with nothing to replace them. The reality is this is not only China's problem but they are the worst. Musk has even said this is the biggest threat to humans in the next 100 years.

Speaking of crimes against humanity, do we dare mention the drug institutes experimenting on us all.
