Edit: my grandmother was wasn't any of the above listed except one thing. She was born and raised in West Virginia so she cooled everything in a cast iron pan with either Crisco Lard and bacon fat. Gosh damn I can still taste those pancakes..👍🙁

No worries, the good news is the doctors have decided she is a great candidate to get a pacemaker and ablation. It's scheduled over a month from now, if there is a cancellation we are hoping it will move her up, So more waiting, but she is back home, and resting.

Now to research pacemakers and ablation... and definitely, any thoughts, ideas, and suggestions would still be greatly appreciated

So my mother has AFIB she is in her 80's the doctor is suggesting they may need to shock her heart back into rhythm, among other possible solutions. Just a tad concerned...has anybody had experience with this? what should we expect

My Dad had this done a few years ago. It sounds worse than it is. They sedated him and shocked his heart. It worked right away. I recall when my Mom told me this, I was shocked. She told me later as she didn’t want to worry me. A good cardiac specialist should be able to do that if it comes to that. It may not come to that for your Mom. I hope she gets better soon.

Okay, whoops, I just saw this comment right after I posted the other one. So my Mom got a pacemaker. She had been having fainting spells, and when she lost consciousness, she was rushed to the ER. Her heart rate was something like 34, really bad. They immediately did emergency surgery and installed a pacemaker. She has been fine since then. As I said in my previous comment, my thoughts are with your Mom. As long as she takes it easy before the surgery, she should be fine.

Thank you very much, God, bless you too, you understand completely, we were lucky we had really good parents, they had all of their kids when they were relatively young and we all grew up with them. My Dad was a great Dad too, but since he traveled for business we were with Mom loads of the time, 4 kids by herself 1 TV 1 bathroom, and can't ever remember her complaining or losing her stuff, not once.

Hell, If the world had the patience and understanding that most Moms of that generation had we would be better off. I still marvel at her attitude even today.

Thanks, Chief D and everybody else too, seriously it's just good to hear everybody's experiences. It definitely helps me process all of this and keep being positive. I know one thing my Mom was concerned about, is that she still gonna feel like crap, her doctor told her she should see a definite improvement in her quality of life, just as you have said.

Thanks, Bigburgh same with my mom

My sis and I have been the recipients of some damn fine meals with all of us living together her cast iron skillet is on the stove right now, seasoned with decades of country-fried steak, biscuits, fried okra, french fries, fried chicken, cornbread, meatloaf, etc.

We just recently had to tell her we got to cook healthy all the time for all of us, not just her.

Trading coconut oil for Crisco wasn't easy but it's not bad, cause her fried green tomatoes and fried okra taste pretty damn good cooked in it, even if it's a tad expensive.

Just an update Mom had her pacemaker and ablation today, she is already back home and resting comfortably. Such a relief, they sent her home with a Medtronic monitor where if I'm reading it correctly it stores data that we can forward to her doctors wirelessly which is pretty cool. She is out like a light and seems to be sleeping comfortably.

I'm not sure, but even though she seems to have a great doctor perhaps they are more familiar with another treatment, or maybe some other issue made her a poor candidate. Regardless I'll make sure we mention it when she has her follow-ups.

She is doing great though I'm amazed, sitting at the kitchen table reading her book like she wasn't in the hospital at all yesterday.

Well her doctors just called my sister. We have to take her back in tomorrow, they have some concerns about the data being sent to them, from the monitor. They seem to think it isn't serious but they do want to check it out. FWIW Mom seems to be doing fine, here's hoping it's nothing invasive they have to do

We've spoken...this...and any bumps or "setbacks"...are expected, usually adjustable....and this is your families new challenges.

But, you have her to do this together for you both. The alternative was far worse.

I'm not a bible-thumper, but Jesus Saves. For her, you n me.

Hey .keep up w me please. Best..God Bless

I will MS, LOL I'm not a thumper either but I'm a believer.

Mom and Dad weren't super religious either but I KNOW we all prayed individually when our older sister was sick with viral meningitis and we weren't sure for a few days if she was gonna make it.

I watched my Mom and Dad (RIP) get on their knees in the hospital's chapel and thank the lord when we found out she was gonna be okay. Mom and Dad just didn't go to that level ever, made me cry then and it still does thinking about it, 40 years later.

We moved back her appointment, she really wasn't feeling good this morning it's hard to tell if it's just her knowing she has to go in or what. I'm glad they are checking her out though, Mom is one of those that doesn't like to inconvenience anybody.

Thanks for the talk it's appreciated
