I have an important piece of advice for you. Do one eye at a time. If something goes wrong on one, you will at least have the other. My Father had it done on both eyes at the same time and he is now legally blind. He sees just shadows and blurs now. He used to love to read. That is no longer possible for him.

I know quite a few people who have had cataract surgery. The majority of them got somewhat better, some didn't notice much improvement, and a few had one of their eyes get worse for some reason or another. But out of the probably hundred and fifty people I know who had it done about a hundred had a worthwhile improvement. Only two people had their eyesight get worse, which is about the normal percentage, a small percentage of people having the surgery have this problem of worsening eyesight for varying reasons.

When you get the surgery done, make sure to use the eye drops as prescribed....some of the people who did not get improvement said they probably should have been more adamant about following those directions they gave about the special eye drops. The people I know who did get the surgery were between their late fifties and late seventies.

My eye problems are from staring at the LCD monitor too much and replacing the regular light bulbs with LEDs...I have since changed the light bulbs back to regular bulbs in certain places in the house and it has halted my and my wife's eye degeneration, but we still have the monitors. I should get a pair of those special glasses that help to protect the eyes from the negative effects of the LEDs

It is up to you to decide if you want to get the operation, all I can say is that the majority of the older people I know who had it say it was worth getting done. The two people I know who got much worse, they won't recommend it though. And those who did not get improvement, half of them know they should have been putting in the medicinal drops regularly and for the whole time.

I do not know if I would get that done myself, thank god my deteriorating eyesight is helped a lot by eye drops and as long as they keep working, I am not getting my eyes worked on.

Lost girl ,if you have any doubts about mans ability , pray to GodThe Father, in The Name of Jesus Christ /Yeshua Hameshiach to guide the surgeons hands , and to protect you . You will be ok , trust God more than the surgeons , but trust also that God will guide their hands .a reply to: lostgirl

I'd not be scared. I have a few friends that have had it done, one about a decade ago.
No side effects for any save for one who had to go back to lesser strength glasses.
I'm awaiting results from my second CT scan on my lungs so I can sympathise with the fright however.
I'll sink a few tonight for both of us eh .

Well, at this point I have opted for 'Distance only' correction, because I had told the doctor that my two primary hobbies (aside from reading), are star going and bird watching -

- so in consideration of that, the doctor said the "Single vision" correction would give the clearest distance sight..

But I'm definitely open to your opinion on that, if you'd like to offer it

WoW!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, all you wonderful ATS friends!!!

You've all contributed to considerable easing of my mind, and I appreciate all the kind words more than I can say!!!

I've given everyone stars, but some would not seem to 'take', so if you didn't get one, it wasn't for lack of trying

Ah bless you sir, I pray the CT scan turns out as favorably as possible...

Definitely "sink" at least one for me - I'm a big fan of British beer!

Oh, please don't forget to take your prescribed eyedrops as directed and make sure your doctor gives you at least one refill on all of them.

Also, invest in a very good set of sunglasses that will block out all the UV coming from the sun. I bought a pair that blocks out UVA and UVB 100%. They are very dark brownish/reddish and personally, I like them very much as they do what I need since I am outdoors a lot on my farm. Of course, your preference may differ but be sure to get the ones that block out 100% UVA and UVB.
