Lebron James, who is now officially a billionaire, says that Griner may not want to come back to America. I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even want to go back to America?'”

Yea...it's America's fault.

LeBron James would have a larger fan base in china.

She broke the law. This is not about rogue dictators or bad presidents of other countries. I guess she never sae Midnight Express.

If this was you or me we would not be in the news. She is an entitled person who brought an illegal drug into Russia for gods sake. How dumb do you have to be?

As far as a trade for the butcher, no, there should be no trade.

I am all for medical and even legal in the US but this was just entitled thinking and she got busted.

^^^^That more than covers what I was thinking as well. You nailed it.

I guess the View and Ellen will have to reschedule their co-signing interviews with Brittany. The bright side is that by the time she gets out, the View and Ellen will be long gone.

I see a lot of hate for Griner on here but let's look at this from a neutral perspective.

She was dumb and made a mistake that will cost her dearly. This is a reminder to anyone traveling that laws in other countries are different and so are the punishments. We absolutely take being American for granted.

Griner didn't like the American Anthem playing. This upset a lot of people. I personally love the anthem.
However this is the freedom we are afforded as Americans. For those that want her to die because she doesn't like the anthem, well that isn't very American. She is now experiencing a country that doesn't have those freedoms. I'm sure that will be a lesson that will stay with her for a long time. Maybe she will enjoy freedoms a little more, maybe she will see the flag and anthem in a different light.

This also points out why I think more Americans should travel (yes I know some can't afford to).
Sometimes we are so caught up in our interfighting, we forget what really makes our country great.

Effective death sentence? Or at minimum she ages 30 years in the next nine?

Any plea bargain for prisoner exchange is definitely an offer she can’t refuse.

No hate. This is a person who feels so entitled they think laws do not apply to them with what she did. Now, because of a little pot there is a call to release a man should never be released?

Nope. Do some time in a Russian prison and think about your mistake. This is not a case of suspicion of something. She got busted with drugs. As I had said, if this was your or me, no one would be looking for us.

Definitely agree, America has always had fringe elements, and probably always will. It's a byproduct of the freedoms we do have, as you pointed out it actually shows the strength of America. As it can exist but it doesn't threaten our stability or peace, no matter how much some want it to.

If it were you or me I'm sure a little money under the table from one of our relatives we'd be out in a week.
She is being held because she is an American athlete.

I absolutely don't think anyone should be released for her.

As someone who has traveled internationally for years, I always made it a point to make myself aware of local laws and customs. One of my medications is banned in several countries, but they make an exception for those with a valid prescription. You just have to jump through a large number of hoops to get the proper paperwork, but it will save you from jail time.

Unfortunately, most countries do not see cannabis as a valid form of medication; hence even with paperwork, it's still illegal. As for the "I forgot it was there," tough, be aware of what's in your luggage. The same rule applies to jackasses that go into an airport with their range bag and forget their handgun in there; still stupid and still illegal. She deserves the punishment that hopefully comes to her; even though I detest Russia, they still have the right to enforce their laws.

Growing up as a military child this was drilled into my head, they used to scare the crap out of us about Turkish Prisons...

The problem is that most Americans haven't traveled, they don't know, what they don't know!!!

This isn't getting drunk in Cancun or Paris on vacation. Slide some cash and it is all good. happened to my brother in Costa Maya. Cost my parents a few grand and it was just a drunk and disorderly but he was a young American male.

She is in Russia. They kill people for being gay. They think nothing of killing their relatives. I understand the angle on her being an American athlete but, not to be mean,I don't think 99.4% of the nation would know her name without this incident.

She committed a crime. Like I said there are those held sometimes because they accuse them of spying but this is just a case of entitlement mentality and getting caught.

If you are a nobody it would work exactly the same way in Russia.
Corruption is extremely prevalent there.

She was probably also a foreign spy.

They should have! Don't you recall ANTIFA? Those aren't so bad. You learn the value of hard work while getting conjugal visits.

Whenever I visited places like China, Africa or Russia, I was briefed and paid attention to the laws there. Their laws are different from US laws.

that is / was a very good practice, cause some place when you get busted, it all over with but for the kickin and screamin.

i don't really hold any hate for her, and i don't really feel sorry for her. i just think it was a stupid move on her part. in fact i think it's kind of stupid to be going to any country where the political tension is high and threatening rhetoric is thick with threats toward the U.S. and it's citizens what ever other country is.

you never know what is gonna set something off and there you are, with your --------- in your hand, thinking what the hell i'm i gonna do now. if your lucky you can get out, as we have seen in the past two years there have been some that haven't been lucky and had some puckered up anuses for a time. and my understanding some still are.
