RIP Nichelle Nichols

Sad news for fictional space and real world space, actress, spokesperson, business entrepreneur,singer, and activist, Nichelle Nichols has passed at 89.

We all Lt. Uhura from the original Star Trek but she had a career before that as a singer with Duke Ellington. Frustrated with ST, she was set to resign when a “fan” talked her out of it: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., no less!!

Encouraged to use her stardom to affect real change, she joined NASA as a spokesperson to recruit minorities and women at the start of the shuttle project.

It is an incredible story and if you have not watched either documentary on this topic, now would be a good time to learn more about this amazing woman.

RIP Ms. Nichols.

She was a class act. I remember seeing her at a Trek convention. She actually sang for us. She was beautiful, and so talented. May she R.I.P.

The documentary was called, "Woman in Motion".

That is where I heard about her pre-ST days. It is a good view. They mention the other doc as well.

And all this time I thought it was O'hura.

I just assumed she was Irish.

Well, they say she had some sort of dementia at the end, possibly alzheimer disease. So when her memories of the last forty years were slowly erased, she may have been calling people she saw Spock or Captain. Probably would have had fun at the trek conventions, she would remember things just like they were yesterday.

Always remember, dryer sheets are actually klingons in disguise.

RIP Ms. Nichols/ You helped knock down a number of stumbling blocks we humans are guilty of.

Little known is that that she and Shatner had the first broadcast TV Interracial kiss... and that cause quite the commotion (back then).

Lets hope that she can continue her peaceful ambassadorship in the afterlife.

My favorite movie scene with her in it was in the movie Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. She was supposed to lure the locals' attention away from Kirk and I think Spock, so they could enter the city. She had dressed up in a skimpy outfit with feathers and was singing...she sang beautifully!! She was a class act. I will keep her in my heart always, as I do all the ones who have gone on before her.

Heaven gained another Angel.

Beautiful Lady, she will be missed and forever in our hearts.
