A terrible accident happened today at a concert of the Band Mirror in Hong Kong. 2 performers were crushed when a huge video display fell on them. These 2 guys were in a large group of performers dancing to the routine being performed for thousands of concert-goers. It looked like a cable snapped and the monstrous display fell 20-25 feet as all the displays were being raised in unison. It hit directly on one man, and then teetered over and crushed another. As everybody else scattered away.

IF stuff like this disturbs you then don't watch and go on to another thread. Seriously I watched it about 30 minutes ago and I can't go back to sleep. This guy was dancing and marching along happily till BOOM.

My daughter loves the Asian boy band thing, which is one reason it grabbed my attention and now I'm wide awake slapped again with the fragility of all.
NSFW

Im sure it's elsewhere by now but damn I watched this when I woke up and was checking out things, Horrific don't think Ive seen an accident so clearly seen from multiple angles. Major props to the first responders I was sure at least one performer was killed immediately it was that violent

HONG KONG — Two male dancers have been injured after a huge video screen crashed onto the stage during a concert by popular Hong Kong boy band Mirror.

More than a dozen performers were on stage at the Hong Kong Coliseum late Thursday night when the screen appeared to come loose from one of the two metal cords from which it was suspended. It landed directly on one dancer before falling backward onto another, eliciting screams from a crowd of thousands.

The concert was stopped and audience members were asked to leave.

A Hospital Authority spokesperson told NBC News that as of Friday morning, one of the dancers was in serious condition and the other is in stable condition. She did not provide any details of their injuries.

Kevin Yeung, the Hong Kong secretary for culture, sports, and tourism, said Friday that one of the metal cords had snapped, causing the screen to fall.

The way you described it I'm not watching it.
I just don't like seeing people get hurt is all.

I'm not a fan of it, but I am not squeamish either. It was unexpected I guess and it is something my daughter is interested in.

apparently two injuries, no deaths.
I watched the video and was pretty sure the guy that got it right on top of his head was dead.

Ambulances arrived about 10 minutes after the accident. The injured dancers were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with one in serious condition and the other in stable condition.

I bet that screen wasn't cheap.

Something falling on me and possibly causing death was never really a concern of mine. Well that used to be the case but now that concern is much greater.

Reports are saying there's only injuries. I find that hard to believe watching that horrific video.

Talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time, jeeze.

I'm not concerned about my own mortality at all, but I do try and maintain some empathy for others.

I had a guy show me where a bullet tore thru his tri-cep n struck
his rib cage. I remember turning to walk away and then hearing
people talking over me as I was coming around. I heard some lady
asking "Are you alright sir?" I bounced off the floor trip'n hard
for at least 2 seconds. And the dude who showed me his wound
goes. Yo man you hit the floor hard bro? Straight up I fell out
in the middle of the store. I start heading for the door, walk'n
away from that guy, talking out the side of my neck. "Dude
don't show me that sh1t again". Third time i done that over
the years. So it does happen rarely.

Remember when it was pianos you had to worry about? Now it's massive video screens.

Times have changed, technology and all...

But suspended video screens are now an existential threat.

Thank goodness! I was running out of existential threats...

very surprised to see initial homie isn't dead, the impact was directly onto his cranium, and then the full force of the fall causing a struck by / caught between type injury directly on his head. The initial impact alone is enough to break his neck, and/or cause extreme cranial hemorrhage, let alone the crushing injury when the floor is introduced. The second homie is surely not totally facing a deadly injury by the looks, except if there were fractures to his pelvis. Since there are tons of massive blood vessels going through the hip, a fracture there can be obviously deadly.

I'd not be surprised that its been hushed that the first guy started assuming room temperature shortly after the incident, if not directly then and there, knowing china.

Hard to believe he didn't die instantly.

I can't help but wonder if maybe that's something they would lie about though. Especially after reading this in the NBC article.

This was not the first accident to take place during the Mirror concert series, which began Monday. Band member Frankie Chan accidentally stepped off the edge of the stage on Tuesday night, The South China Morning Post reported. He fell about three feet and posted on social media later that he was bruised but otherwise fine.

Fans then started an online petition calling on concert organizers to “ensure the safety of all performers,” citing Chan’s fall along with other perceived safety issues. The petition had gathered more than 12,000 signatures before the accident on Thursday.

www.nbcnews.com...

Doesn't seem completely beyond the realm of possibility that they might be willing to pay a huge sum of money to the family, in order to not let the public/fans know if the person died.

Something else I can't help thinking about is the timing of this fall. You know that wire had been gradually coming apart throughout the performance. It didn't just instantly happen all at once. But only a fraction of a second sooner or later, and probably not a direct hit.
