For full disclosure, our house is a Nintendo home (opposed to PlayStation or Xbox). Our son is 10 years old and when we aren’t playing baseball or
working in our small garden or doing other “real” things…. we LOVE US some video games. Our daughter is 4 and she has been enjoying the Peppa
Pig Switch game (thanks to the incredibly simple controls). She also likes MK8D with the autopilot features on.
To your point about the first article, I totally concede that the rarity was (or appears to be) total BS. I still see the All Stars game on the
shelves at my local stores. I have no idea if it is still available for download though. (For the record, we preordered our copy even though we have
all three games on their original consoles). We love playing but to a lesser extent we like collecting too.
That being said, as I write this I'm struggling to think of other examples of Nintendo creating false scarcity. Im thinking of the Mario and Zelda
Game and Watch from the past few years. The preorders would sell out immediately (I used to watch on a site that tracks game availability). Still,
by the time the holidays rolled around, there was plenty of inventory around. Same goes for the Mario Kart Home Circuit.
I think that Nintendo makes some strange decisions but the false rarity isn’t something that has bothered me much.
I’m much more aggravated with Animal Crossing basically being a one player game PER CONSOLE. I haven’t though about that for a while but now that
I do…. ggrrrrrr
The general feeling in our house (shared by my wife whom stopped gaming years ago) is that Nintendo is one of our favorite companies. Based on the
hours of enjoyment we get based on the cost of the system and games, we find we get a HUGE bang for the buck. We’ve been playing BOTW for years now
and we are choosing NOT to beat the game yet until we find EVERYTHING. We’re about half way through the Ballad now and are in no rush to complete
it and go off to defeat Gannon because we know we have some time until the sequel comes out.
I’m sure if we were to dig into it we would find out all sorts or horrible things but fortunately or unfortunately, we have more pressing challenges
in life.
Not to bash the competition or anything, but when it comes to servicing a loyal customer base…. are PS5’s readily available yet? I haven’t
checked in a while but THAT was a sh-t show.
