Well, here's the deal, next time I show up like that just give me the damn kimchi recipe and I won't have to pretend to be a realtor.

You think old Korean ladies write down their secret recipes?
It’s a pinch of this, a pinch of that and if you share the family recipe you’ll be cursed with ugly grandkids.

Yeah, in that weird picture language thing you have. Don't lie to me, I'll come back next time as the UPS guy and I'll go UPSide your head if I don't get that recipe.

Yeah, you're correct to be wary. The people walking by might not mean much, but the other two instances are bell ringers.

Stay safe Jag.

Cheers

Back to the walking people. So where I live is in a neighborhood but it is rural and lots are huge. We do not have any sidewalks.
When people walk here it's usually because they live in the neighborhood. It would be difficult for people to just walk here for leisure. They would have to park somewhere and then walk here.

Did you consider that some of your neighbours may have guests who want a walkabout and to explore while on holiday or a visit?

People should consider that some people DGAF what others want and do not want to interact with them, especially on their own property.

Yes of course, which is why just one of these thing individually is nothing to be really concerned about, however all three is suspicious. I've lived here for many years, so guest just "exploring" isn't too common either. Again, there aren't sidewalks. Most people have acres, so if people wanted to walk, they could do it in their backyards. There are also hundres of acres of private trails that would significantly more pleasant than walking on a road.

That is more common in Europe than in today's USA. Americans are typically in vehicles when they go somewhere.

Those events would certainly have me on high alert. It's not uncommon for neighborhoods to be scoped out and then wait 2-3 months before taking any action.
I find the 'realtor' guy driving a junkheap to be especially suspect.

Stay safe, Jag!

This!

I do maintenance for a real estate company. Agents oftentimes use their cars to show various properties. It puts you in their terf and "in control". Every one of those cars are spotless, and some of the less careful agents are on first name basis with the local body-shops.

They view their cars as an extension of themselves when making an impression on a customer.

When I first saw the car I thought Amazon delivery because they use their own cars sometimes. Then I thought
Church people… I would never think that car was a realtors!

Earlier this year I had several cars a day drive up our dead end driveway, turn around and leave. Turns out the house above us, accessed from another road, was for sale and Google Maps put them up our driveway.

A Woman sitting in your driveway trying to figure out her wrong turn, then a realtor trying to approach you..Are you sure this isn’t the case?

I’m absolutely positive because I follow our local market closely. Right now we only have SIX houses for sale in our village.
In my neighborhood it’s rare for something to go on the market even in a good year.

Also due to the nature of our road there would be no way for someone to mistake my address for another.

What if they're going nowhere? Just a "wander".

Is the whole of the USA that insular? Maybe that's why paranoia is a ruling factor when it comes to unknown faces in familiar views.

Yup. I live on a dead end road. Lady was looking confused so I walked up and asked if I could help.
'I'm trying to get to Sunrise Road.'
'You can't get there from here.'
'But my GPS says I can.'
'Your GPS is wrong.'

Lady had trouble believing me. Not really my problem so I left.

Very likely, but this is ATS, where we go to confirm that our conspirational fantasies are real with people who will believe anything other than a reasonable explanation.

Did You have all three, a misdirected car, a realtor and someone walk up your dead end road?

As I mentioned, each incident alone is probably nothing. Also the realtor didn’t want to leave.

I actually researched and one of the ways burglars scope is to pretend to look for something and then when approached they make a story. There are scrips they follow, looking for an address, or dog etc. They are looking for empty houses or to try to understand the schedule of the occupants.

It is absolutely possible all three indigents were harmless and nothing, but these days I’m not comfortable just trusting strangers.

The first two things don't sound like much more than a coincidence, but the "realtor" thing is concerning. For one thing, no self respecting legitimate realtor would go driving around in a junky car. Nor would they be picking random houses to "talk to people". They have better things to do. If you see him again, jot down his license plate and call the police. Just watch your six. It sounds good that you have cameras and that. It seems that there are so many grifters and con artists out there. I don't trust many people either. Anyone doing sketchy crap in my neighborhood usually gets the cops called on them. Many of us are old nosy retired people, and know the usual people and cars in the neighborhood. Having said that, my neighbor in the condo next door to mine, where we share a wall, we suspect she's selling drugs. The local cops are aware. If we see anything that looks not right, we call the cops. I hope they bust her.

Yes exactly. I don’t live in an area that gets much foot or vehicle traffic.
Everyone knows everyone.
All three are rare here. This isn’t a normal suburban neighborhood.

We don’t have sidewalks, the closest store is 10 minutes away, it’s farmland and houses with big yards, that’s it.

Always pay attention to your instincts, you mentioned your kids being home? perhaps these were people they knew? Not inferring they are doing anything nefarious, just when you are out you sometimes pick up acquaintances that aren't necessarily friends, if that makes sense.

My brother had his car stolen out of our driveway, and it was by a couple of guys he knew but wasn't friends or hung out with.

My kids are adults and I know their friends so we can rule that out. My son was as taken aback by the "realtor".
Also the two people I saw were not in that age group (20's) More like 40s.

Always pay attention to your instincts

I agree with this, as I said I'm a little on the paranoid side (was almost abducted twice in my life) so I am just hyper aware of things.

I am also aware with this economy people are getting desperate. Stores are now hiring security. Gas is crazy, food is crazy. People might be trying things they haven't before and that's unfortunate.

I apologize I thought the post said kids home from college? FWIW people coming in and out at all hours is good or at least it used to be. You should be able to pull up crime stats online and see if there have been reports, and also check in on the NEXTDOOR app good way to see what's going on in the neighborhood and tell people what you have seen. If it's a close-knit neighborhood and it's on the app you might find somebody else with info on who these people were.

I hate it when people come up unsolicited, I had a guy knock on the door once and I was in the garage, but I saw on Ring and ignored him. Damn if he didn't walk to the garage and try and pull up the door, which is where I met him

Oh that is the other thing.

I live in an area with virtually 0 crime, at least according to statistics. I know that isn’t true but for whatever reasons those in power know how to suppress certain things here.

Here’s what the stats say:

one of the safest communities in Wisconsin to live in. In fact, it is one of the safest communities in the entire nation, according to FBI crime statistics.
