How clear are skies in Interior Canada during the winter months despite coldness?

The sunshine for me is all the difference and if I had to I could make it thru a Canadian winter if it has semi-frequent sunny outbreaks even if it's butt cold. I used to live in the Sierra Nevada's that got quite cold in the winter. THAT was fun!!!

I actually enjoy nippy temps and miss our 'Artic Outbreaks' we used to get here in Oregon which we don't get anymore. Feb 2019 was our last bonefide cold weather. The Ice Storm of 2021 never got much below 32F the entire event so doesn't really count in my books despite all the destruction it had it just didn't get super cold and not for any real length of time either.

In fact at one point there was a predicted Artic Airmass that failed to materialize. It was going to be a week of nights at low 20s/upper teens and mid 30s for highs with severe clear allowing whatever snow to fall to remain for a while. We never got a SINGLE FLAKE of snow!!!!

They can be super clear. I used to live up north BC and also Edmonton. Winter was often sunny, clear and beautiful in a way it just isn't here on the coast where it's usually grey and rainy. In some ways life is easier with the rain but it makes for a pretty dreary and long winter.

In Edmonton, I used to go to a public pool where they had a hot tub in a sort of green house extension to the pool, mid winter and it felt very bright and tropical.

Ottawa can go as low as -30C/-40C for several days towards end of January, start of February.
Overcast can go for 1-2 weeks between sunshine days

However, in March, fairly sunny and skiing in spring ski conditions= GLORIOUS

(except ski here are ski hills, nothing like the Sierra Nevadas, except for Mont-Tremblant)

I have lived in Quincy Plumas County and it would go into the upper teens/low twenties at night and 35-40F day most of the winter. Most of the snow avoided our area actually though a few times we had 6 inch falls mostly our last year. We lived from 1993 to 1996 and just missed the big flood by one day which was another story of it's own. Oh boy!
