So "the experts" ...

For a while now, we've been fed a steady diet of CRT in our lives in all corners. You can't escape it, so it's hard not to hear all about what is and is not white supremacist and racist and white oppressive. One of the things you can't escape is the idea that meritocracy is white supremacy, linked inextricably to the white oppressive system we all live in.

So, who tells us all this? The "Experts", but who are the "Experts"? Well, they're the best and brightest in their fields. How did they get that way? By being the best and earning their way to the top.

Why look, look at that ... our entire ruling elite are a meritocracy according to this. The "Experts" are part of the system they tell us we shouldn't be part of and emulate, and yet there they are.

"Listen to us. Do as we say ... just don't do as we do."

And when we don't listen to them because they are part of the system they tell us we should abhor ... why, we're the uneducated rubes who hate education and are doing it wrong.

Just like with everything else. Merit for them, but not for us. *They* have the merit; *we* should not and never presume to think we do.

Actually, we should just never presume to think.

Actually, it's not even cognitive dissonance. For cognitive dissonance, one must be cognitively aware. They are not w even remotely cognitively aware..

I always say that one of the symptoms of progressivism is a complete lack of self-awareness. They all literally and completely have none.

Your analysis is not surprising. Well reasoned, but not surprising.

ETA: The other symptom is a total inability to recognize or process humor. They are a humorless bunch. If you encounter someone who lacks even basic self-awareness and has no sense of humor, you can bet they're progressive in their political orientation. And if they are angry and look like Rosie O'Donnell, it's a slam-dunk.

Really? In which wonderful country do you live where gov is selected on the basis of their ability?

Oh, I am not talking about the ones who preach it so much as the ones who talk all about how merit is bad because the experts say so without even stopping to think about how many times they accept what the experts say and why they listen to those experts and how those experts got there.

That's the cognitive dissonance.

The guy is health advisor since Reagan. G.W. Bush gave him his Medal of Freedom.
Who would you prefer to have as medical advisor? A Plumber?
One person advising gov in the field they actually studied doesn't make a meritocracy.

There's no meritocracy that's all I'm saying. It only exists and ever only existed as theory.

What's the definition of Meritocracy in a dictionary printed say 5 years ago?

Point still stands.

We are told these are the best and brightest which is merit-based, and people accept it because they believe it. Then when these same people tell them the meritocracy is racist, they believe it because the best and brightest (merit) told them so. Even better, the best and brightest telling them so can be of any race and frequently are of some race other than white, so it's not like they're being lectured by whites on how merit is racist.

But even if you say there is no merit system, fine. I'll bet you still do what the "Experts" tell you. If you don't believe they're the best, then why do you do what they say as if you do?

I happen to have my American Heritage c 1982, 1985. Will that do?

1. system in which advancement is based on ability or achievement
2. a.) an elite composed of talented achievers b.) leadership by such an elite

I got a medal once.
Found it in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.
Ask any veteran what medals mean.
Yes , they do instill pride , yet do not put food on the table .

Funny you should mention plumbers.
A plumber from New Jersey once proved Professor Hawking was not exactly correct on his theory of Hawking Radiation .

Yeah , I am still here (every now and then) Denying Ignorance .

You know how it is ... You're a nice word, but sometimes you get confused about what you mean. So you unpack your definitions and realize that you were born with the wrong one, and then you decide you really feel like you were meant to mean something else.

And that's when it starts ...

The grammar blockers ... you get your part of speech removed ... you have to apply for new plurals ... It just never ends!
