OK, who needs a good laugh?

Remember when Biden fell off his bicycle during that dumb PR stunt?

Well, some prankster has managed to get Google Maps to name that spot "Brandon Falls."

This is awesome.
Maybe some good traffic, real and internet will get Wikipedia
to make a page on it.

Who said history has to be boring?

I wish our government still had some self awareness and could make fun of itself to some degree. Say what you want about Trump or prior presidents, they would have at least had fun with it and wouldn't have worked hard to censor it. I mean some presidents wouldn't like it, but most modern presidents would have at least made fun of themselves and probably mentioned "XXXX Falls" at some point to show that they are of the people and have some humanity and dignity about themselves. Instead this administration works hard to censor and crush any proof of Biden's mishaps at every twist and turn, yet everyone see's and hears them, all the while they tell us our eyes and ears are deceiving us. They adhere to this Goebbels's principle:

β€œIt would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise.”
-- Joseph Goebbels

I guess Goebbels hit the nail on the head when he called the majority primitive. You only have to convince them they are smart.

But this is comedy gold none the less and I hope people continue to submit it and try and get it marked. I'm sure Google Maps will just censor it out and delete this spot out of existence.....

Allow me to be the first to gently explain to you that Google is a company and is not the government.

That part of their business is "accurate maps" and not "crowd-sourced memes." They allow "Brandon falls" in other spots but not in critical navigation areas.

As to the presidents laughing at themselves, all except one were good enough sports to show up at the Correspondents' Dinner where the news gets to jab at the president while he's in the audience...and he gets to roast them right back. Biden laid a few zingers on them at the last one of those dinners and Obama, Bush, Clinton and many others have given as good as they've got.

One president, of course, skipped out on it all four years of his term. He doesn't like being made fun of.

You are correct that Google is a company. But it is also a company that provides a search engine that has been shown time and time again to censor the # out of your searches. Sure it's a company and they can do what they want and they can push whatever agenda they want. I won't argue that. But at some point shouldn't you do right by people and be moral? Morality is something that is lost on a lot of companies here in the states. Companies can push agenda's not saying they can't but shouldn't we as citizens ask them "At what cost?"

In regards to providing accurate maps, can't disagree there, I use the Google Maps app all the time for it's accuracy. It sucks in Puerto Rico, but here in the continental United States it's amazing. I hope it continues to provide me with quality free navigation. Granted it collects data on me at every twist and turn, and that's ok too, I don't have anything to hide. But my take on it is have a little fun sometimes... I'm sure if it was "Trump Falls" it would still be up. And that is where my problem lies. Bias. Unequal representation. But you are correct they are a company and it is within their rights. But at what cost?

As far as presidents being made fun of and having fun with it, I won't use the Correspondence dinner as a benchmark. It's a political event where the Media rubs elbows with Politicians for monetary gain. I think we can both agree that the media here in the United States is corrupt as # and it's hard to believe anything any of them spew out... So yeah, not going to use that as a benchmark.

Trump had a lot of fun with what the democrats said about him on the campaign trail. Go to Youtube and just look at the fun he had with them saying his hair is fake. That's self awareness.... Here I'll do you a favor so you don't have to do any work:

www.youtube.com...

Just one example of the man you didn't want to mention. But he makes fun of himself in this video, he's being sarcastic and real. He's showing a human touch. And by no means am I a Trumpster. I think he is fake as # etc. etc. But I can appreciate when someone has fun with themselves and can be self aware.

Biden has moments where he makes fun of himself for not being able to speak as well. Never said he didn't. What I was saying is those around him will work hard as # to censor any and all his gaffes. They'll tell us that what we see and what we hear is completely false and this is what we heard.

All I'm saying is a little fun in this world goes a long way. And if people want to make that a destination where they act like morons, maybe google and our government should lighten up a little and just go with it. It's a fad, it fades, like everything else. But allowing people to have fun and blow off some steam? Goes a very long way.

Which is why one uses different search engines. It's a business decision on your part (to not use a search engine that you don't like) and if you're smart you train your browser (because I can guarantee that if you did your search on Google on YOUR computer and then entered that same search on MY computer we'd get different results because of the cookies and so forth on our machines that stores our preferences. It's all about ads so they pick the results that are in line with what you click on and ditch the rest.

Sure it's a company and they can do what they want and they can push whatever agenda they want. I won't argue that. But at some point shouldn't you do right by people and be moral?

Whose morals? No, seriously. MY morals might say that photos and depictions of nude women are immoral and I might be able to point to religious quotes that prove my point. Others might say that nudity doesn't violate their morals.

Who's right?

Who's to say that Google isn't following the moral guidelines of someone whose guidelines aren't the same as yours?

However, if the app allows people to go trolling with the data, your navigation will begin to degrade as the number of spurious references show up and eventually you get overloaded by garbage. Garbage overload ruins a lot of experiences (imagine if movies in the theater had a pause every 15 minutes for a 3 minute series of commercials)

Actually, we don't agree on this. I read a number of sources, including non-US sources. I would agree that they have a certain corporate bias that ranges from the very far left to the very far right and you have to look for a balance. I also avoid op-eds in favor of actual who-what-where-when(and in neutral language, thank you) reporting.

But corrupt? No.

Trump had a lot of fun with what the democrats said about him on the campaign trail.

Making jokes out of what you say that people say about you is hardly "a sense of humor." You control the situation. You control the jokes. Biden and everyone else did the same thing through the past centuries, so by your metric they all have a good sense of humor.

The government doesn't care, really. Police aren't arresting anyone over "Brandon" material.

Corporations, however, who have to deal with a free market and customers DO care because one act can have quite a financial impact. This is what a free market does.

What if a company like Google supports a specific political party (and discriminates against a rival party) and doesn't declare the "time" as an "in kind" campaign contribution ? 😎

So what?

It's the company's right. They're not a government. It's done all the time. Read up on the news about the company "Hobby Lobby" (which I don't patronize) as an example.

In a free (unregulated) market they can do what they like and the consumers are free to choose it or not.

Note: These impacts are usually global, so if enough of an outcry is made in a country about that product, the entire country (and usually one or more of its global allies) will block or ban the product.

Although I am in favor of regulated markets, recent US legislation has operated to remove some of the shackling constraints from companies because a shackled company is not a free market company.

I sez "that's the way to have monopolies" but "don't let government interfere" seems to be a stronger idea here in the US than my "regulate them because I know how abusive monopolies are thanks to history" sentiments.

You sound bitter and beat. So be it 🀨

Uh... your comeback for all of that is "gosh, you must be bitter"?

Nothing better, like a link with some salient comments about any of the points I brought up? No quoting of William F. Buckley? No pithy statements from Morton Blackwell? No scorching hot data crunching from the Cato Institute or American Conservative Foundation?

Just... "you sound bitter and beat"?

Not even one link to a piece on rights and corporate foundations by Council for National Policy?

Just... "you sound bitter and beat"?

Not even a homily from "Reader's Digest" (yes, folks, that's a conservative publication that donates to and is involved with a lot of conservative organizations and politicians)?

Just... "you sound bitter and beat"?

Yes indeed. Quite the comeback there.
