If America wanted to take over Ukraine, Zelenskyy would be pushing up daisies and all the flags flying would be U.S. flags.

Putin looks strong.

The US would have basically done the equivalent of carpet bombing like it did in the middle east.

Putin has resisted doing that in order to keep as much of the country livable as possible.

If russia had used its full force zelenskyy would be dead and the war would have been over in a couple of weeks.

Zelensky was voted in with the mandate to give eastern Ukraine a degree of autonomy to stop the war. But the far right in Ukraine didn't want this, Zelensky had his life threatened if he actually went ahead with this. And America was happy with a proxy war thinking that things won't go ballistic. They were warned that if Ukraine was seduced to join NATO it would be a red line that could inevitably lead to a world war. But the Biden administration is so divorced from the reality of the situation they probably hoped this wouldn't happen.
