Polish execution of the Red Cross mission

In Russia, by the time of the 1917 revolution, about 2 million Russian soldiers were in captivity. In the new conditions, their fate was a big question.

The exchange and return of prisoners of war were handled by the missions of the Red Cross. A delegation from Poland worked on the territory of Soviet Russia, respectively, a Soviet mission was sent to Poland, which in Poland ... was shot. And today about it.

In December 1918, representatives of the Soviet Red Cross were sent to Poland. The composition of the delegation was selected very carefully. It consisted of people who had family or friendly ties in Poland, who once lived there.

But this turned out to be a fatal mistake. The Poles, when they learned about the composition of the Soviet mission, were very frightened, because they considered that in addition to the issues of the return of prisoners, the mission would be engaged in political activities.


The fears of the Poles were based on the fact that the Soviet mission was headed by Bronislav Veselovsky, an ethnic Pole, a revolutionary, a social democrat, who, even under tsarist Russia, managed to serve more than 20 years in prisons and hard labor for his political activities.

The mission arrived in Warsaw on 20 December. On December 22, work began, in fact. True, it turned out to be very short.
On the same day, the mission was arrested and sent to the prison in Warsaw, in full force, without any charges. Nobody understood what was happening.

The Poles announced that the Soviet mission had been sent to Russia safe and sound. And indeed, the members of the mission went home, but, alas, they did not reach Russia. Such a pity: on the way they were attacked by unknown people and killed everyone. This was the version of the Polish side



But one person still survived and told what really happened. Doctor Leon Alter was lucky. After being wounded, he lost consciousness and was considered dead. When Leon woke up, he was able by some miracle to crawl to the nearest village of Vyliny-Rus, where he was helped.

By this time, the news of the death of the Soviet Red Cross mission had spread throughout the world. The Poles swore to find and severely punish the villainous murderers. They conducted a thorough investigation, alas, to no avail. And it couldn't be otherwise.

Dr. Alter said that the delegates were shot at by their own escorts, Polish soldiers, and the wounded were finished off with point-blank shots. And from the village near which the execution took place, in which the survivor was helped, it was very far from the Russian border.

Now the Poles prefer not to remember this, as well as the concentration camps of death on their territory.

Poland was occupied by Germany then so explain why you seem to blame Poland of those concentration camps ?
I wonder due your post is Russia going after Poland now.. Remember Ukraine post before Russia invaded

The history of the world is full of such atrocities - and that is not intended to trivialise this particular incident.
These sort of things aren't exclusive to any one nation, it seems most have committed such acts at one time or another.

So this was solely politically motivated?

Concentration camps built by Germans and prisoners of war in Poland would be called Polish camps, your understanding of English is obviously at fault or you are trying to blame the Polish for said camps.
Is that your attempt at trying to Nazify the Poles I wonder?

Not so long ago RT you were berating members for living in the past , now here we are in 1917 again the more things change the more they stay the same for those unwilling to learn from history .
