Not gonna lie Ive been burned and got 3rd-degree burns on my legs but getting eaten alive by alligators or crocodiles has to be a horrible way to go too. Shark bites and attacks are marginally better than alligators' rip and tear.

Somebody found out their grandmother went to play golf this morning and got eaten by 2 alligators...

An elderly woman was killed after she fell into a pond along a Florida golf course and was attacked by two alligators, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Friday at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood, about 30 miles south of Sarasota.

The woman fell into a pond along the course near her home "and struggled to stay afloat," the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
"While in the water two alligators were observed near the victim and ultimately grabbed her while in the water," the sheriff's office said.

The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lol, there's an entire residental area just north that boasts a creek literally called "Alligator Creek".

And people still think I'm full of # when I say they do fine in brackish coastal, too. Test that on the intercoastal side of Manasota.

Edit: I might sound dismissive about it, but I grew up in FL, and this atea is among the spots. People DO occasionally fall in & get eaten, par for the course in American Australia...so shocking for OOSers, but not for locals/longtermers.

I'm wondering who observed her struggling to stay afloat before the alligators got to her?

It sounds like someone witnessed the whole thing....

Were they in any position to help?

Maybe it was on camera?

I'd like to know how that went down....

Was there someone who could of rushed over and attempted a rescue? But didn't?

Probably in no position to help, it was two gators - 2, dos, etc - not one two of the suckers ganging up on something & just hang it TF up.

Personal experience of mine being running like hell from the leaping gator in the canal that targeted my fishing line. I wasn't stupid enough to stick around.

On the bright side, she was old, and had an honest death.

Proper. What a way to go.

Hopefully she went into shock and didn't suffer for any length of time. I think that's nature's way to compensate for the brutal reality.

Not shocking at all, have worked in Florida my whole adult life and have been from one end to another and I love the state there are some gorgeous ranches outside of Ocala and Palatka I could live there rather nicely as well as most of the east coast from Jacksonville on down especially Crescent Beach to Melbourne Stuart and obviously Wast Palm and Boca. Mostly for me at least I'm fascinated by shark attacks and crocodile and alligator attacks not just in Florida but all over.

I can and do sometimes spend hours just perusing this site when it is up and running

www.crocodile-attack.info...

How would you "attempt a rescue" when two gaters are snapping their teeth? What would you have done had you been there?

I live in Florida and have for 57 years. We used to swim in the rivers and lakes all the time. Not any more. Since alligators became a protected species, their numbers have Greatly increased. I wouldn't jump in one of these waters now. I swim in the ocean regularly. Even with shark populations increasing, the danger is much less imho.'

It's hard to believe dangerous critters would be allowed on a golf course, even if they are protected. People should protect themselves when they go golfing in alligator infested golf courses. Take a shooting iron along with your 9 iron.

Before this lady, there was a guy eaten by a Florida Gator (2 weeks ago) when he went into the water to retrieve a Frisbee.

A few days before that, an alligator took a dog into the water and ate him, as the owner walked the dog on a trail next to a Florida lake.

They may have to lift the endangered status and start a State wide culling to help reduce the numbers.

I don't care what rational y'all come up with, Humans and Gators cannot peacefully coeexist, they need their space, we need ours. As the dominate lifeform, we can take, we can save, but our patience will wear thin if you keep eating us.

Yeah, one in Largo (the dude) and wasnt there also recently a guy walking near Warm Mineral (North Port) who got chomped trying to pet a gator he thought was a dog?

Takes all kinds down there. Florida Man is honestly just equal parts Stupid Local, and Stupid Transplant. Gator "attack" news just highlights it.

Straight.

And gators can zig, as well as zag. Damn things can be fast as hell, and don't think youre safe up a tree, because they can climb trees, too.

It's like it's where Satan goes to get his housepets or something. Hot enough for it
