I see it as just like the 'Honney Booboo' show years ago. Never watched it but could not avoid all the commercials for it.

Just a family exploiting a kid for all they are worth.

There is a YouTube channel where a kid does a toy review. He is getting millions a year but is starting to get too old for the audience. There are rumors of his parents trying to make another kid just to keep the money flowing.

The Kardashians are more or less the same but they are adults at least in age.

Give the masses a new shiny to look at until it wears off or gets old then do it again.

Just more shallow entertainment. The problem is when kids are involved, they often become messed up for life and the parents get the money.

He's a cute little girl, wait until puberty hits and he gets an Adam's apple the size of a Major League Baseball.

That's a Madam's Apple in his case.

These are the types of people who commit suicide after they reach puberty and realize what they've been suckered into.

They commit suicide because of the outside judgement by others.

No they don't. They do this sht thinking it's the trendy and cool thing to do, then realize after it's too late that it wasn't trendy and cool, but fcked up and freakish, and only their mom and friends (and outside freaks) thought it was cute.

Humans are not black and white -- they are fluid -- as we are learning by removing the "boxes" society has deemed "proper".

I agree with ketsuko. In the case of Desmond, it's pretty obvious his mother orchestrated his "stardom".
I think it started out with Desmond showing an interest in 'a feminine side'. It progressed fairly quickly to becoming a full blown child drag queen. Children simply can't think critically at such a young age.

If this boy started doing what he's doing as a (young) adult, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
But at his age? Before even reaching puberty? It's not right and it's not right for those parents to let this happen!

My nephew is gay and we could all see it years before he himself understood it. As a child, no one encouraged him or pushed him in one direction or the other, his family let it come naturally, on his pace and accepted it.

When I was around 5-6 year old I had a friend (male) who said everyday that he felt like he was a girl and he didn't want a boy body. When he reached puberty his parents sent him away to some kind of boarding school, mainly because they felt ashamed that their boy was saying such things. Of course he became a trans-woman.

I myself didn't want to be a girl, mainly because I wanted to be exactly like my brother and his friends, I only wanted to play with boys, wear boy cloths, do boy things, fight with sticks and say I wanted to be in the military when I grow up.... back then they called it being a 'tomboy'.
I grew completely out of it, almost in a matter of days, once I came into puberty.

So, 11 years old? that is way to young to know exactly who you are and what you want....

2 million dollars for crossdressing and swinging on a pole for people on Instagram. It seems that I may have worked too hard for my money.

I grew up in an all boys neighborhood with 2 brothers.

Yes, I wanted to be a boy -- but I KNEW I was a girl.

Want and KNEW are different.

My 14-year-old goes OFF about Ryan all the time.

He thinks his parents are exploiting him for money.

I worked for a company where I was the minority being straight.

Currently, I have a couple transgender friends.

They just KNOW.

They KNOW it's what/who their body/chemical makeup creation is. How they were born.

Acceptance, by outsiders, is a long tough road.

I feel fortunate that I was somewhat immersed -- and learned not to be ignorant.

Let me circle back. (as former white house press secretary Jenn would say)
Do you think it's OK for Desmond's parents to promote these activities? Do you think they're being honest when they say it's all about supporting him? Do you see anything wrong with what they're doing?

Desmond has a 40% likelihood of attempting suicide.
Probably higher when his faux celebrity ends.

yes I get that, they know.

I just can't shake the thought that, if I had grown up somewhere in the last 15 years, would I still have grown out of it? Or would I have let the internet drive me insane, thinking that I must be gay or trans because I feel that I rather be a boy? If I had grown up in current times I would surely think that something is wrong with me...
On top of that, If in that scenario I had parents who would encourage me to just be a boy.... I don't know. It would screw with my head for sure....

Right? Who knew that all you had to do to make millions as a child was tuck your noodle and twerk in front of a bunch of whistling perverts and pedophiles?

Hey now!
Dressing your daughter up and prancing her in front of horny perverts is pedophilia, doing the same thing to your son is empowering.

Gonna say -- I don't know Desmond's parents.

I don't know Desmond.

But it does seem to me -- Desmond is driving this -- not his parents.

There have always been young performance artists. Their support system is criteria #1 (the background -- not the stage).

I'm on "like" my 4th generation of raising kids. It's a tough world out there and getting harder and harder to make a living. This kid is making a living.

I am not of a "let kids be kids" mindset. What generation did that happen? Children used to work and have responsibilities from an early age.

I am a realist.

This kid says what he is doing is drag. So that tells me that he most likely has no interest in hormones and transitioning to a woman, nor does he seem to be promoting that. All the power to him if he wants to dress like a girl and perform for money. I was athletic and fit and decidedly heterosexual at his age, and if I were 11 or 12 now, maybe I would try out crossdressing and hanging on a pole for the chance at millions. I bet you would at least consider it, too. I know that I still would grow up to be a serial womanizer. There is a chance that this kid will, too.

I would have a much different opinion if hormones and transitioning were involved here. I believe people should fully grow up to adulthood and truly know themselves before undergoing drastic life-altering medical procedures.

I was overlooking that part when I made my comment to ColeY. Smushing and confining my junk makes the money far less appealing.

Acceptance, by outsiders, is a long tough road.

Let me ask you a question... When you were in high school, were there any groups that didn't accept you? For example, maybe the guys didn't accept you because you were a girl, the girls didn't accept you because you were a tomboy, the black kids didn't accept you because you were white, the gothic kids didn't accept you because you didn't dress in all black and draw "KORN" on your jeans in thick black letters, etc.

I only ask because when I was in high school in the late 90's, the rich kids never accepted me because I was too poor, the poor kids never accepted me because I was too rich, the rednecks never accepted me because I didn't wear Wranglers and boots and drive a jacked up 4x4, the gothic kids never accepted me because I didn't listen death metal and wear all black clothes and Airwalks, the druggy kids never accepted me because I didn't smoke weed. My friends were a mixture of athletes, smart kids, and black kids who came from middle class families. I never wanted acceptance from those who wouldn't accept me. It's only a long tough road if you make it that way and feel like you should be accepted. My point is, throughout most stages in your life, you're only going to be accepted by those who share the same commonalities as you. I was middle class, listened to rap and rock, wore jeans and a polo shirt, and played baseball, and that was exactly how my friends were.

I cannot distinguish them, one from another OR their extended family. Modeling and ''influencing seems to be it. BUT to give them their due, they did manage to stretch the scope of popularly acceptable behinds. I say bravo for that ladies.
